Now that I’ve stopped crying, my objective thoughts are:

Carlo picked a team with more attacking players, but we didn’t attack them. Either poor game plan or players didn’t execute it well.

Upon seeing that was the case, we should have put Godfrey on for Iwobi and pushed Digne up. I think The Wall is what works for us now, and even if we risk looking unambitious against Newcastle, we’d probably have won the match.

Richarlison needs a few games on the bench.

We need to get Allan fixed ASAP.

Agree on Allan.

Regarding the attacking, this has been an issue since those first 4 brilliant games. We haven't played well going forward for most of the season; our wins since then have been by the odd goal, digging in and excellent organisation.

There just doesn't seem to be much zip in our midfield at all. We have the quality to be able to play through teams but it feels like we just rely on Digne or Coleman crossing it into an increasingly isolated DCL. Infuriating.

Steve Bruce will always absolutely own this football club. Doesn’t matter who our manger is, who’s on the pitch or what form we are in, the bloke lives in our head and will pull a tactical masterclass out of his massive backside.

We literally cannot laugh at Newcastle anymore.
We can. The have fans who have straighteners with horses. I mean come on, what's not to laugh at.

Newcastle and Leeds we lost thos two fixtures beside each other in our one and only bad spell. If we can turn the reverse fixtures into wins i believe we are on for big things.
After the derby, big test games for me were Southampton and Newcastle in autumn, though you're right as this one is even more indicative, as we are halfway now through the season.

Now, I clearly won't expect us to be in Top-4, for me to believe in opposite Everton should beat everybody from Reds, MU, City and Spurs to Leeds and others, and we all know the odds of that.

I'm glad I write this after cooling my head walking in the light frost. Nothing to add really, everybody saw this, why salt the wound.

At least some people in this messed up world are happy for a while.

Therein lies the problem: Balance.

We started off with wacky 5-2 wins and just looking to outscore the oppo. When the goals dried up we focussed on tightening up at the back and that’s got us on our latest run of good results.

It would be amazing to somehow knit the two together but without some world class players to link up attack and defence we simply can’t. The Wall and it’s obvious defensive benefits is by far the lesser of two evils. We tried to recapture that attacking lightning in a bottle today against a team at rock bottom and it backfired massively.

Newcastle have won 6 games all season but have done the double over us. I fully expect Leeds to do the same next week
Leeds are going to run us into the ground. We can't cope with high pressure pressing. Every player bar James loses their head and can't make a simple pass. We will have 40% possession of were lucky and almost all of it will be in our defensive third.
