Match Thread Everton v Newcastle United - Postponed

And this occurred during and after their match on Monday night did it?

I wonder, can they just make a statement to the effect that players have tested positive, or do they have to submit evidence?

It couldn't have come at a better time as they have a few injuries.
As did the earlier break for us.

I would be amazed if the PL just accepted club's word for negative test results and / or injuries.

I honestly cant see how they can demand to see the results. Just like your employer can’t demand to see youur results due to data protection etc. only players are allowed to announce they have covid etc, or they have to at least give people permission to talk about them having covid

Let's see the numbers then. Never mind how many injuries they have, how many have Covid?

That's supposed to be why matches are being postponed and injuries don't really come into it if they can still put a team on the ground. Aren't you supposed to play if you have 14 fit players?

Man Utd kept playing after Munich.

I would expect it’s in the FA handbook that applies to club governance somewhere that states that the FA have a legitimate interest in knowing certain things but the whole thing is and has been bizarrely handled by the FA from the start of this whole thing

Njet problemja, in baseball they play twice a day...
Yes! The subway double header! I saw that a good many years ago! Thousands of people on the subway in NYC going between one stadium and the other !! Imagine us playing the RS at Analfield in the afternoon and then everyone going to GP for the return in the evening !!

Seamus back in training after our enforced Christmas layoff.

I think the main thing is the season needs at least pausing or whatever. All teams will be using it to their advantage if possible, including Everton
They're not going to pause the season as that would mean they'd likely be forced to extend the season for all, which isn't something they'll want to do.

On the other hand, postponing individual fixtures will mean the FA will try a slapdash approach of getting all the postponed games played before the final fixture.

It won't matter that some individual clubs will be forced to play x-amount of games in such a short period, with the likelihood of more postponements to come.

I think if it beings to impact on the likes of RS, City et al. then then maybe they'll rethink but minnows such as Burnley and ourselves won't be a consideration.

Like I said yesterday, I suspect at some point the FA will actually shun the COVID cases and say teams need to get on with it, which itself is inconsistent.

Playing rescheduled games hasn't boded well for us in recent years -

2010 (frozen pipes) - Boxing day home banker v Birmingham - rescheduled result limp 1-1 draw
2014 (high winds) - February very winnable game v Palace - rescheduled result 3-2 defeat.

2011 (local riots) - season opening game v Spurs away - rescheduled game 0-2 expected loss.

I think it will work in our favour, hopefully a few players in quick in January and get our keys players back. But also the same does go for the teams we are playing.

I see your point but It’s all history, when we play these games hopefully we are in a much better state with new players and fit key players.

From the premier league, factors considered when deciding whether to postpone a top flight game:

  1. The impact of COVID-19 infections on a club's squad, as well as injuries, illness and those isolating, and the number of players available on the squad list and any Under-23 players with appropriate experience. Where a club cannot field 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper either from its squad list or its appropriately experienced Under-23 players, the match will be postponed.
  2. The status of any COVID-19 outbreak within a club, including the number of individuals affected, the sequence and source of infections and their proximity to the match in question.
  3. A club's ability to safely prepare its players in the lead-up to a match.
  4. Medical advice as to whether there is any unacceptable risk to the health and safety of players and staff by playing the match.
  5. Any advice from UK Health Security Agency and other public bodies.
  6. Any other exceptional circumstances.

Premier League players and staff must also now take a lateral flow test every time they want to enter their club's training ground as the competition steps up its efforts to combat the threat posed by the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

It is understood individuals will be required to take a lateral flow test outside the facility, while twice-weekly PCR testing is also being introduced and notify the premier league.
