The trouble with Coleman is his legs have lost a yard of pace but they haven't told his brain, so he tries stuff he can't do anymore. Conversely he still doesn't block crosses, but I guess he never did.
He probably thinks the wide player he's up against is going to smash it into him like he usually does when he gets a crossing chance.

Despite languishing in the lower reaches of the championship Rotherham easily matched our chaps today. You wonder why they can't play with that intensity every week.
It's a funny old game.

We are through to the next round that's all that is important.

Digne and Rodriguez got minutes on the field to improve match fitness, another positive.

I went with Rodriguez for MotM. Simply because what he did right led to positive moments for us in a game with little creativity or quality from us. If we add more pace to our attack and reserve he'll be of even bigger value to us with that football brain.

Hopefully Carlo has now seen all that he needs to see from our squad and he knows what is needed and who is not needed. Some awful performances there today.
Time to continue the work of weeding out those who are of no use to us and to bring in players that add to the squad.
Despite today and some of our recent games we have moved on, maybe not as much as some people would like, but moved on nonetheless.
The new players are the ones showing the way, clear out those who aren’t making a contribution.

We were utterly complacent and out fought for 90 mins it was only Doucoure who turned the game for us. Some of the players we have are cowards. Was shocking how we were out hassled by a championship team in midfield also worrying how we allow other teams to dominate us for long stretches of games we are last to every second ball, which was the same against West Ham. Some of those players starting today aren't good enough, we need better and to buck our ideas up fast!

Doucoure gave us legs and ultimately someone for rodriguez to find. That team with a half fit Digne was painfully slow.

The result is all that matters today. Yes we where awful but we got through. Lets be honest Its far from the first time we've almost come unstuck against a plucky lower league side. I know its not fun but that's the nature of cup games. It happens, twas ever thus.

Go back to the ECWC in 1985. When we think of that competition most of us will think of the Bayern Munich semi or the final itself but before all that happened we played University College Dublin and only just limped over the line 1-0 after two legs. At one point during the second leg at Goodison they hit the bar, had that gone in they would have knocked us out. A team of students almost beat possibly the greatest team in our clubs history. We also got knocked out of the league cup at home to Grimsby Town If my memory serves me correctly. If results like that can happen to a team like our 84-85 side then of course it can happen to our current dogdirt team!

Ah. Not the first time we've come up against plucky lower league teams and scraped it. I remember a team that went on to be champions needing 3 games to beat Gillingham.
Fair play Rotherham. Had a go.
The same team were a few coats of paint from going out of the cup winners cup first round to a bunch of Irish part timers, and went on to win it. It's a sign!
