Give it a rest. He played him behind the striker, Rooney drops deep as well when playing there. The problem was that he tired after 30-40 mins.

Im not sure what match you're watching but in the first half Mccarthy was regularly further ahead of him. He was dropping back into a defensive midfielders position all the time. Also moved out wide and generally roamed all over the place...hence why he was tired.
 

His problem is not understanding the pace of the English game. A loan abroad would achieve nothing.

Need him to adapt whilst not being a constant liability in the interim for us.

Adapt to what exactly?

If it's not the pace of the English game you're alluding to, then I'm going to assume that you're referring to his technical ability. He could hone those skills here OR abroad.
