I certainly didn't vote "No Everton" that's for sure. Win or lose, no matter if they live up or down to their expectations i'm always proud them and there always a treat to watch every week. That goes for the Toffees and any other team I follow.
Maybe it's because i'm a positive and loyal person by nature, maybe it's because I don't take sports as seriously as other and that win or lose, 5th or 12th, the world isn't going to come to an end if the club don't finish where we want them to finish but following Everton isn't some sort of curse for me. I take a lot of joy and pride following this club.
It was a tough game to watch, that’s for sure. If wasn’t even a classic Everton match from 2014-15 where we dictated possession and nothing came out of it, while the other team caught a lucky break and cashed in. They didn’t even have much of the possession. All in the process, Everton played extremely lethargic and let Spurs play keep-a-way with the ball for the majority of the match and the chances Everton had were blown and Kevin Mirallas has some blame in that.
This was an end of season game with nothing to play for and Everton treated it as such. Not really a great way to end the season, playing like that on your home pitch in front of the loyal supporters who deserved a better performance from their home team today given how you team has faired in the PL.
I also have to say is farewell to Sylvain Distin. For six years, the Frenchman had given us nothing but reliability in the back four for six seasons and was a classy player in the process. I don’t know where he will end up, but wherever that may be I wish him nothing but the best.
With that ends the 2014-15 season and I doubt many will be rushing to buy the highlight DVD of this season. It was a season filled with blown games against [Poor language removed] opponents (including two matches where a club now relegated; Hull City, embarrassed Everton at Goodison and at the KC), missed opportunities, a retched home record and barely registering a pulse in the two domestic cups ties.
It wasn’t all gloom and doom; there was at least 2% of positivity I can take from this season.
-The performance of John Stones
-Lukaku, despite being a polarizing figure with some Evertonians scored 20 goals in all competitions
-The comeback at Upton Park
-Jags goal in the Merseyside
-Playing out best football of the year in the Europa League, where despite all signs telling me I shouldn’t feel like this due to the last 20 years but I really thought given how we were playing that we were going to win it all and I feel guilty thinking like that, because you have to have hope as a supporter. You have to believe beyond logic sometimes that your team can pull it off because sometimes hope, faith and belief is all you have as a supporter.
It was a season to forget for sure, but despite the pessimism shared by some Evertonians, I really don’t think this team is bad as their record tell us. There’s a lot of talent on this team and I just think it was a lost season. Just like that one season where we qualified for the CL and had a rough PL season. I feel with a buy or two, a rearrangement of the squad and with no European commitment unfortunately, that Everton will be able to compete at a high level like they did in 2013-14 and I trust the gaffer that he will learn from his mistakes and make the necessary adjustments needed to make that happen.
