As if we're going to finish top 5 in a season when we have a new manager, new system and are losing it looks like are two best players.

Kin ell.

NO LAD DIS MARTHEAD SHOULD BE FINISHNG TOP 3 DATS WHAT WE DEMAND, IF MOYST FINISHED 5TH AND DER PLAYERS R A YEAR OLDER DEN WE SHOULD FINISH HIGER DIS SEASON

That probably is frighteningly close to what many are thinking. Unbelievable. You'd think Martinez was picking up the reins of a Champions League squad rather than following in the footsteps of a manager who put together a core of about 14 utility players who could make themselves tough to beat.

I always knew Martinez had his work cut out trying to move forward whilst pacifying melts like these.

Thought that Mulumba of West Brom absolutely bossed the game today, and he cost something like £125,000

Got to agree mate, said it to me old man during the game. He's about what, 5'6", 5'7" but strong as an ox and keeps the ball very well, and gets about the pitch for the full 90!.

Norwich were damn lucky to score both of their only two shots on target. West Brom gave a masterclass in defending. We will start winning games soon enough. Our performances are the main thing and I think we look pretty good. Passing could be a bit quicker and we're sorely missing Gibson.

All this exactly for me!. Yes, we have drawn two winnable games but in the main weve performed ok and in both games ive felt we can give a hell of a lot more!. But it's all about timing which a lot of Evertonians, especially on here, aren't willing to give?!!.

Martinez will not work miracles over night. He's only got his teeth into the squad for a matter of 8-9 weeks or summat and that is no way long enough to get the players fully tuned and adjusted to his methods but the signs are good!.

Martinez admitted himself there are areas we need improving on and im pretty certain that is that we need to move the ball a lot quicker and get the ball into threatening areas a lot quicker too to be able to be a threat to teams and increase the possibility of creating better chances to score!.

You people need to realise that this season is gonna be one of big transition which will be made harder due to not having the funds to bring in the players required to implement the ways in which Martinez likes to play the game!. At the end of the day, this season is gonna be a lot tougher than people imagined.

I don't like talking about em but look at the sh!te, it took them a season, and they were able to spend some money in the summer and January to try and get the players in that suited how Brenda wants his team to play and atm, they seem to be working. We don't have the luxury or the funds to go out and buy players of the calibre of Coutinho, who is exactly the type of player we are craving for in this new way of playing under our new manager. People may say 'well Coutinho cost just over £8.5m!', yes he did, but was well down the pecking order at Inter, hense why he was woth what Liverpool bought him for but on current form over the past few months, he'll be worth double that and the rest!.

We have all got to be patient with this season and just take it on the chin IF we under achieve and hope that next season we have a bit more to spend and Martinez can gradually get in the players he sees fit to come in and help the team and get us playing in the manor he wants?!.

Very good post mate. The pitchfork brigade aren't buying it though: He hasn't got us into the Champions League places yet FFS...and we've played two games...let's start again and get Pereira in...he wanted to come and spend all our big transfer budget money on world class players to get us into the CL. We missed the boat there. Maybe next time eh?

Don't understand how anybody who watched even just the highlights could say we were poor. They had about one chance.

We weren't proper poor but we weren't great either but we didn't play with a quick enough tempo or shift the ball fast enough to break West Brom down but that was a lot to do with West Brom I think.

They did very well to slow us down and frustrate us!. I mean, ive never witnessed time wasting like that before in only the second game of the season, and midway through the first half alway through to the final minute!.

It's gonna be the nature of the beast im afraid, teams are gonna do this to us on a regular basis and that's were weve got to be a lot quicker and smarter on the ball to break these stubborn teams down.

Not having two forwards on against West Brom was disappointing.

Kone looked lively when he came on. Jelavic up top on his own just doesn't work.

And why was the Player's Lounge closed?

Cost us 2 points today and will end up getting us relegated. It's a joke really.

Lads, just a bit of perspective.

As a nipper I remember Catterick and the 1970 team. That team broke up way too quickly particularly imo particularly with the sale of my hero Alan Ball.

We then descended into a grim decade and a half under Bingham and Lee with a few hard luck stories thrown in under Lee- 1977 League Cup Final and the FAC SFs against the RS and WHU.

HK took almost three years to win anything and was almost gone (from many fans' point of view) in January 1984. Remember the cushions???

FFS will you give RM a nbreak.

He has taken over after an 11 year regime, and it takes time to unpick old, different methods of management; to bring players around to understanding this new positive footballing style; and of course to persuade impatient fans that we are actually progressing as a club.

Fans who whinge about possible not being in the top 6 are deluded. There is very little difference for a club of the tradition of Everton whether we finish 6th or 9th.

Everton FC should be challenging seriously for silverware.... the league ideally, but I am prepared to wait for this.

Under DM we were NEVER going to WIN anything....just perform reasonably well in various competitions, and then take a pat on the backs as plucky Everton, while we invited the other teams onto us to go and beat us ---- RS, Chelsea in the Cup; Sky 4 away in the League etc etc.

I am a lot more optimistic as an Evertonian than I was in 1973, 1977, or 1981.

DM took us away from a lot of trouble post Wally, but never looked like delivering success.

Good post mate, like we used to say, "What's our name" ?

Two very good posts.

Really good post. My old man talks about the days of Kendall being manager first time around and finding it tough, then he says we bought 2, possibly 3 players, one was Heath definitely but the other/others pass me by but apparently, they seemed to make the difference and after a result against Oxford in the cup, we never looked back, things clicked into place and we was very successful!.

Things are even harder these days due to finances and certain teams having a hell of a lot more financial muscle than the rest, and especially us so it will take us time to slowly but gradually get in the players we need to be able to suit the methods and systems Martinez wants us to play in.

Edit:- It may of been just Heath and Andy Gray if I remember rightly, and someone else possibly, but them 2 definitely I think, if someone can correct me?!.

Exactly. We weren't a success under Moyes (anyone saying we were should give their heads a wobble - this is Everton FFS) and there's no great risk being taken allowing another manager with progressive ideas the job.

Any stats available for Osman yesterday? With the ball I thought he was one of our better players. Actually seemed to me to be moving the ball in the same way that Gibson does. The problem for me was more defensively. No pace or power and doesn't have that positional sense to make up for it
