As has been argued already earlier this summer, expect a different game away and at home. At Goodison, teams are going to get two banks of four set up behind the ball and will be happy to sit and test how inventive we are picking the lock. Away we'll get opponents committed to pressing us a bit more and we'll get chances to release the likes of Mirallas and Kone.

The Norwich and West Brom games are a good early guide. Of course, against the elite clubs that pattern won't hold true.

Did I watch a different game to other people?

What I saw (and even my kopite mate said so too) was 1 team trying to play a good game of attractive football, and another team trying to get a draw. It's going to be difficult enough to break teams like that down as it is, let alone when you're 2 games in to a new season with a manager trying to implement his style.

Personally, I thought we did quite well. We hit the post twice didn't we? Jelavic was poor as per so hopefully those wanting him to play himself back in to form will stop bleating so much. As I said after the Norwich game you can tell in 10 minutes that Kone is better than Jelavic and Anichebe put together, and he did more in those 10 minutes or so than Jelavic did all game. There's going to be a fair bit of humble pie being dished out this season on I think.

Yes, maybe it was a little dull at times but I thought we were pretty good towards the latter stages of the second half, we were dominating them despite them having 11 player in their half. I honestly thought it would have taken Martinez longer to get us playing like that, I think we're just missing a little cohesion and a goal or two, which I'm certain will come once Kone is starting games. He looks a player.

As you said, complaints should really be directed at Steve Clarke not Martinez. TBH, if I was Clarke I'd hang my head in shame at those tactics.

Fair assessment of the game that. When we upped the tempo/urgency we looked a lot more potent. Very much a work in progress, no pain no gain etc. Agree about Kone, he looked more direct and powerful than Jelavic, he also seems to be able to stay on his feet.

Boss post

We played right in front of them for 90 mins, we tried to go down the middle and got crowed out every single time. Baines and Coleman, every time they go forward for some reason they would stop 30 yds from goal and play inside and when we did cross the ball into the box there was no one in the box.

We carried on with those tactics till the last 10mins...what next are we going to blame the mega expensive pitch for being to slow ! I heard they asked for the sprinkler system to be turned on full wack at half time to help the players well it made fook all difference as we carried on right from the first half.

Martinez has employed a philosophy that he does not have the players to make it work.

You can tell that from two games can you?

I suspect we could win the league and you'd complain about something.

You bet your fookin life I can and so did everyone around me at the game.

You believe what you want to mate, it,s a forum but he has got this very wrong so far.

Did you approve of the Martinez appointment originally mate?

I think big expectations were the reason for people's generally average mood after yesterday's game.

It wasn't mind blowing but it was far from terrible. We looked open at the back when going forward, but we were far more solid than I would have expected from looking at Wigan last season. We keep possession a lot more now when there's nothing on instead of trying to force the issue, I think this can get frustrating, but if we stick at it and things do click, that's the way to be.

I was skeptical about Martinez when we got him in, but I definitely saw more yesterday that made me look forward to this season than worry about it. Another day Fellaini's shot goes in, Coleman's cross comes in under the bar and we've won comfortably dominating possession and shots.

It wasn't great yesterday, but it was far from terrible. If we're looking at this as a transitional period rather than an instant turn around, Norwich and yesterday have been a slow, but good start.

So not that the players have not had enough time to adapt to a new tactic after years of one way of playing, No after two games you know categorically that those players yesterday can not play they way Martinez would like

You should take up coaching lad your talents are wasted

Everything at the match happens so fast so it's always good to watch the 20 minute highlights on the site.

Pick up on things a second time

It,s not fooking rocket science is it. When you have all the possession in the wrong areas of the pitch and then play tippy tappy till we loose the ball it all adds up to one thing.
