In response to signs of crowing or over optimism by Wolves geezers on here, I am glad you are back in the top league and good luck to you (except on Saturday) . Ambition for the title is very laudable, but utterly unrealistic in the modern age. (ignore Leicester as my crystal ball says it will never happen again). However have a little humility when you consider you have been the best part of 2 decades (?) out of the top division. Such an experience is unknown to us at Everton. We may be ragged around the edges like our ground is, but we are a proper top league club and playing outside it is a distant memory of old men (like me). As I said welcome back to "the big time", or at least to the lower levels of the big time.
I'll risk the ire of people on here, and i hope people on here dont see this as me having a dig because its not, but you are just one of a number of clubs who are just also rans in this league now. Everton, just like us, are fighting for 7th place at best, and are a fair way from breaking the top 4. Your history, just like ours, is irrelevant these days. Its been 39 years since we won a major trophy, and 25? years for you guys? It shapes who we are as clubs, but it means very little in the scheme of things these days.
I'm not sure how anyone is going to consistently break into that top 4 battle. I dont really know how your owners operate, or how much financial backing they are providing, but from the outside looking in considering you are such an established club you dont seem to be attracting many top class footballers. You could probably enlighten me as to why that is. Cant quite work out if you fella's think Silva is a good manager or you want him gone! You seem to spend plenty, but it doesn't seem to be getting you where i'd guess you are expecting to be so probably your recruitment is an issue? Everton would be a club club we would have been looking to aspire to tbh, but i think we have already got to your level this season. I dont think its a lack of humility for us to be confident in what we are capable of achieving, but there is no doubt its still early days for us.
What i do know is our owners are openly ambitious, have huge amounts of money to spend ( which also doesnt mean a great deal unless we can get creative with FFP or somebody gets it abolished ) and we have some great connections through Mendes I dont actually think at the moment from what i have seen this season, we are that far away from the likes of United and Arsenal. We are a lot better than some on here think we are, but at the same time we are only 7th for a reason, and thats because we are inconsitent. What we probably need is a couple more players like Moutinho, who tbh has been an absolute revelation, to give us that consistency we need to kick on. It wouldn't surprise me if we put 3 past you or if we got beaten 2-0, and i'd say thats the same for a lot of clubs in and around us.
