I'm a happy Martinez clapper mate.
rsi for life.

Sadly could not be there today but a few random thoughts:

  • Robles - very assured performance, unquestionably now feels at home in the "no. 1" shirt. Intelligent too, I liked the way he made sure that there was no contact with Pedro in the first half.
  • Baines - as much as we love Oviedo, Baines when fit is still a very high quality left back, outstanding today - wish in the summer we can find someone to play the "Piennar" role in front of him.
  • Playing three across midfield is a far better option than two DMs plus 2 others - thought it allowed us to press much more effectively, and certainly against weaker opposition would give Barkley much more freedom to roam. Chelsea did make Ross have to come a lot deeper than I suspect he wanted in order to get on the ball
  • Lennon - in the form of his life, and a joy to watch. Feisty, saw him giving off to Costa after the Barry assault that earned his first yellow. Hope this continues and develops further. Credit to Martinez for resuscitating his career.
  • Lukaku -the complete centre forwards display today, hold up play was brilliant, chased down the Chelsea defence non stop. His goals - every wannabe centre forward should watch both for hours on end - total masterclass of running, power, skill and finishing. The great differentiate themselves from the ordinary by stepping up performances, building and then stepping up again. That's what we've seen from Lukaku in his time so far with us, just a near seemless transition from raw talent to one of the best strikers in European football. The best is that there's still much more to come.
Cannot think of a more positive day (95 Cup aside which was a one off sadly) - brilliant performance, witnessed by our new owner (who looks a more interesting character than I thought he might ) and the promise of investment in the summer.

Wonderful day.

All that's missing is a bit of mongrel. They were all at it today too, from the normally timid Baines and Coleman to supersnide Gareth Barry. Got the crowd into it and badly screwed with Chelsea's heads. Only took one or two tackles and half of their team's heads had gone.

How about Lukaku though? My word. Not sure I've seen a better Everton goal, given the occasion. Watching he and Barkley combine to win us a cup quarter final is enough to get all sorts of blood flowing. The fact we had a newly acquired billionaire watching the whole thing is almost too much to take.

Bravo Roberto, bravo Romelu, bravo Goodison.

This is what we expect and want.
