No, that's the message which was given when Jelavic played thirty games for us last season.

Lukaku has scored 9 goals in 16 games. He had a rough patch in recent weeks, which had a lot to do with teams sticking a man, often two, on him from the outset because he had such a good start to the season. He scored against Southampton at the weekend. Prior to today Jelavic had not scored for us for....

ELEVEN MONTHS

The idea that a player with 9 goals in the league this season should be dropped for a player with two goals in 11 months (both against a championship side) is mad. Absolutely bonkers.

I'd say an expectation on Lukaku to start every game is more bonkers.

The lad barely played 90 minutes before coming here - we risk burning him out if we persist with him when under performing, not to mention his confidence.

If Jelavic is still here for the next game, I'd like to see him start

Like to add I'm pleased Lukaku got a rest. Been looking.... lethargic lately and was clearly in need of some time off.

Good performance, get in

WTF? My argument makes perfect sense - if a player performs well and scores goals, reward him for it. If he performs badly, then don't.

Lukaku has been poor for a month, Jelavic has done well lately and culminated with two goals today.

Therefore, reward the inform player, drop the out of form player.

I'm not saying Jelavic is the better player, but it could be Vellios or Hallam Hope and I'd say the same - if you're doing the business in the first team, regardless of circumstance, you should be rewarded, or we go back to the bad old days of automatic starters.

The player "in form" - who's just scored his first goals since March last year!

Good Lord.

If Martinez doesn't think he's fit to start then of course, but isn't that a different discussion ?

If both players are fit there's no choice to be made, imo. A player who has put in a good performance against QPR or a player who has been a major part of us being in the top 4 race this season.

Good game, totally dominated from start to finish, good to see Jelavic amongst the goals again. The centre back pairing of Stones and Alcaraz looks classy, but that was against poor opposition.

Why not? It's only Norwich, so go with the hot hand and who knows, maybe the old Jelavic will return. As they say, form is temporary.

"It's only Crystal Palace"

"It's only Sunderland"

People need to stop underestimating teams. Lukaku will have a had a good rest, its not an easy game and our best striker should be starting, in my opinion.

Having said that, I wouldn't exactly be unhappy if Jelavic does start. Hopefully he'll take a lot of confidence from today.

Jelavic should start the first 45 mins of Norwich . If he up for it try lukaku with him in a 4-4-2 I think it would be good if we tryed it like city do . Lukaku can hold the ball up and play it to jelavic or they can play a few one twos to each other . I think if we did try it then we would have more scoring opportunitys than playing one up front

Come on blues, let's not look back to Everton's bad old days and risk our great all round play with a mobile striker under Martinez.

Best of luck to Jelavic in his career outside of Everton, but we can't afford to place our trust in a limited PL footballer like him.

I'm sure Martinez isn't about to make that mistake anyway like. He's trying to find him a club and will never allow Lukaku to be replaced by anyone other than another deputy hie himself will bring in.
