why would the rule only apply in the league?

cos its a premier league rule!

In the Premier League, players on loan are not permitted to play against the team which holds their registration (section 7.2 of rule M.6). This means that one of the 'big' clubs can loan out a promising young player to an opposing team in the Premiership but the loanee will not be allowed to play against his 'owning' club and his parent club will not be able to observe how he plays against a 'big' club. Loanees are, however, allowed to play against their 'owning' clubs in cup competitions, unless they have played for their owning club in that cup during that season.

Come on blues, let's not look back to Everton's bad old days and risk our great all round play with a mobile striker under Martinez.

Best of luck to Jelavic in his career outside of Everton, but we can't afford to place our trust in a limited PL footballer like him.

I'm sure Martinez isn't about to make that mistake anyway like. He's trying to find him a club and will never allow Lukaku to be replaced by anyone other than another deputy hie himself will bring in.

But for as long as he's here, better to have him feeling more confident about his game, which today will have done in spades. Can only help the team. He was slotting for fun when he first got here, so what made him ****e all of a sudden? (Besides Moyes.) And you bang on about Lukaku's nine goals vs. Jelavic's two, but Lukaku has has the lion's share of the minutes up front. Granted, his barren spell was the reason he got stapled to the bench, but one can only play one's way out of a slump and maybe this is the start of that road for Jelavic.

thanks,saved me doing it.

Been out shopping in Manchester with my wife and only just found out the score. A good win for Roberto and the team to set the club off on the cup trail.

happy days

The day that Jelavic finally convinces his dwindling band of believers that he is, in fact, pony.

Naismith and Jelavic, God help us. That really should be still the strike force of a Scottish Division One outfit.

You've been humiliated with this post.

My following post is about today's game.

First half performance was excellent. First 20 minutes was some of the best football I've seen at Goodison this season. Lovely one touch passing and the movement in the final third was excellent. Good play between Barkley and Oviedo to create Barkley's goal which he placed beautifully into the bottom corner. Jelavic capitalised on a defensive error and slotted with his right foot with a lovely finish again.
The only mistake I can really point out in the first half was a defensive lapse by Bryan Oviedo who switched off and allowed a QPR player to sneak in from behind him and create a goalscoring opportunity which was dragged across the penalty area and out of play.

Second half we scored another two goals, great work by Oviedo getting to the byline and putting a low cross in for Jelavic's second with a poachers finish. Coleman's goal was a trademark finish, nicely lofted into the top corner from the right hand side on which he cuts in on. Great possession second Half and looked more than comfortable on the ball. Ross Barkley was ace, dribbling through player after player and came close to getting a second.

Glad to see Jelavic playing well and getting on the scoresheet. Start him against Norwich next week, see how it goes.

Loved the passing today, very fluent and the level of creativity was high. Today's football showed me a glimpse into the future of Everton, the slick passing and movement around midfield and the final third was the greatest I've seen this season, so far.

I've said it once and I will say it again Jelavic is as good if not better than the likes of Saurez so for that reason alone next week it should be Naismith up top. In all seriousness let's just enjoy today, well done Jelavic for bagging a couple, well done Martinez for rotating the squad a little and for once we are safely through with minimum of fuss. Whoever plays next Saturday I will have faith that Boberto will make the right call, whether that be Jela, Lukaku or Hibbert. COYB!!!

Jelavic scored 2 against Clint Hill and Onohoua ffs, he's not 'in form' so to speak and shouldn't be starting the next game over Lukaku. He did well today but has fell over his feet and missed sitters galore for the last couple of years.

Outstanding today though, Everton. John Stones is like a cross between Baresi and Nesta.
