Everton Youth Teams Thread

Trevoh Chalobah is Chelsea, he’s played alongside Feeney at U17s and was then promoted up an age, well built strong defender , looks a player. I don’t know anything about Tanganga from Spurs the other CB but the full back Reece James is also of Chelsea and was impressive at the Toulon tournament in the summer and can play CB.
So Feeney will have tough competition , but should start games alongside Chalobah. Positionally Feeney is a strange one in that he’s never played any other position than CB for us or England - all our other young CBs played other positions at some time usually full back , Galloway, Stones, Browning , Pennington , Holgate , and Connolly and Kenny have played a number of positions across the back four. Even when he was breaking into the U23s from the bench he was coming on at CB with Connolly moved to full back to accommodate him , I wonder if he’d have come on against Lyon if he’d played full back sometimes. While he’s definitely a CB it’s just something that may cause him to miss opportunities in the future.
P.S England beat Faroe 6-0
Just been looking at that. There's around 5/6 from last seasons winning squad that are still there so must have been playing above age group last year, including key players like Sterling, Chalobah, Ryan Sessegnon and player of tournament Mason Mount. I also see Sancho has jumped up an age group from the u17s, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two others from the U17s join them later in the campaign as their age group (U18s) has no formal competition this year. With our boys (think Beni and Evans are also in this age group) and players like George Hirst, you have to say they are in with another great chance of winning the competition this year too. Shame last seasons winners don't have the opportunity to compete in the U20s WC, but I feel we may have an even better group this year to have a go at it. Jumping the gun a bit maybe, but what an achievement it would be if this group of players were to go on and defend the U19 euros first, and then the following years word cup.

Goals here :

He's a big lad. Think he's grown a couple of extra inches since I last saw him but he's been injured a while so not sure how long ago that was.

The fear with somebody his size is that it's his size that makes him stand out so much at that age group, rather than his actual ability. But he's always been cool and clinical in front of goal, which is something you cant teach, so I still have high hopes for him.

Looking forward to seeing more of him with the U23s which should give us a better indication of how he's progressing.

Was Simms the lad who scored a load of goals in that pre-season tournament?
Yep, I think could go either way, I imagine that Oumar was a bit like him at 16, Score a few miss a few , big and strong.
No. Unfortunately sambou can't hit a cows arse with a banjo
Strikers have been a weakness of Unsys at U23s level , Sambou was brought in on his recommendation so I suspect he’s been given more of a chance than most. Not that I’m moaning given he brought in DCL for £1.5 mill .
I guess the answer to the original posters query about young strikers is that we’re all waiting for Hornby to get an injury free run at a higher level. With Oumar and Henen not eligible for the Europa, the desire to rest players , and them being dead games there may be an outside chance that Hornby gets into a Europa squad, I’d have him before Sambou or anyone else as striker. Baines will need a rest too and with Martina injured throw in Lewis Gibson or Feeney at left back . We’ve had younger players on in these tournaments before !!

We've nothing to lose have we?. There'll be no pressure on them so they can just go out and enjoy the experience.

Lukas Nmecha from Man City would be worth a look as a striker- 18 year old England U19 player.

Reckon he'd have a chance of breaking through with us, realistically no chance with City. Same goes for loads of decent players at Chelsea too.

Noticed Liverpool had 3 in the new England U17 squad (compared to our zero) but when I looked one has joined from Arsenal and 1 from Newcastle. They've already got Brewster from Chelsea and at least one more from Arsenal. I know they got banned from signing youth players because of their tactics but I think we need to be quicker to compete in this market.

I think we will look to be. This strategy needs to be generalised across lots of clubs, but we have a unique opportunity to present to young players because we of the number of young players we've given opportunities too. If you are 16-18 there are probably few clubs better to join, who have a mix of top facilities, excellent coaching, a desire to blood and support younger players and an opportunity to play for a club who are in the PL.

I see a lot about young players being given a chance, with Chelsea and City in particular being attacked. Carragher made an excellent point when he said parents need to think more about opportunities for their children and he's right. Ever young player is free to leave up to 17 and in honesty young players have to start being selfish at those clubs, and not getting stuck in their system. You can't carry on crying about lack of opportunities forever, it becomes naive. Do what Sancho has recently done.

We have started doing this. Liverpool will have to be very careful when their ban runs out. We have got Ellis Simms in the summer and I think we will look at others. An opportunity to be playing first team football within 18 months is a massive fillip.

Yeah Liverpool fans were gloating that they’d put one over on Arsenal to get that youngster , can’t remember his name but it’s double-barrelled . Curtis Jones is the only one I can remember, I take little notice of anything RS to be honest, but he had a good game against our u18s the other month and scored a cracking goal for them so no doubt they’re over hyping him somewhere . There’s a rumour that they are trying to snatch an U17s called Bobby Duncan from City as he’s their next big thing and Gerard’s cousin.

Everton u18s v Ipswich Town was what came out in the 3rd round FA Youth Cup draw, game likely early december, and last seasons 3rd round game [v tranmere-2-0 to us] was played at Gooidson park-so might do again
