Everton Youth Teams Thread

4th placed Everton u23s lose 2-1 at 3rd placed Leicester city after conceeding 2 goals in last 7mins-Leicester move up to 2nd place, our goal came from Hornby on 22mins,we stay in 4th place,10 points behind top place now, and this means 5 games in a row in all comps without a win,Leicetser are unbeaten since august,

The next league u23s game is a week today home v west ham at southport, but before then they 1st play Dinamo Zagreb u23 this friday 7pm in there 3rd and probably final game of the premier league international cup as even a win is probably not good enough to get them in next round from this group

Seemed to stop playing after 35 minutes, partly due to higher tempo from Leicester. Poor second goal: long free kick, free header across, unmarked player volleyed in. Bit unlucky to lose it so late to a good side but we didn't do enough 2nd half.

Great to see Bolasie back.

....others are more qualified than me, Zat, but here’s my view:

Feeney - the fact that he’s come into a successful U23 set up and given the arm band says a lot about how much he’s rated. He’s on the way up whilst others ahead of him are in the twilight of their careers so depending on who comes in you have to think he’ll be in and around the first team next season. I know Matty Foulds is also rated.

Adeniran - he’s a fine athlete, proper box to box midfielder. Scored some great goals but I think he’s more a defender than attacker. I don’t think he’s particularly gone on since he joined us. I notice a couple of times he’s been brought off early in games (on one occasion he appeared to be sulking but somebody said he was injured). He’s got all the ammunition, I think it’s a matter of watch this space.

Have seen bits of Gibson. He’s younger than the others but he looks physically powerful. I wonder if this is why he can play CB at youth level but will prove to be a LB as he gets older. I’d like to see more of him given he’ll be 18 next year and LB is a real problem for us. We are desperate for a LB, be great if we’ve already got one who is good enough.

Cheers!

I think if there is 'progression' planned then if Gibson is 18 next season it may be worth us signing a Baines replacement and keeping him another season and then end of next season replace with Gibson as rotation option...if he develops of course..

...much will depend on how good he is. If he’s very special then he could be introduced and play as an 18 year old but the approach you suggest is probably more likely.

Am I right in thinking Feeney and Gibson are the same age group internationally?

When LVG was at united, and of course other teams have also had a u1920 defender as 4th choice...so I guess feeney and Gibson have a chance at rapid progression.

what makes you say that?

Because he doesn't have the ability a full-back needs and won't ever from what I've seen of him England & Everton. He's the same as a Holgate or Galloway. These days full-backs need to be as good on the ball as wingers whereas he'd just be solid and unfussy which is a complete waste of a position on the pitch. Left-sided centre half I'll put my house on it.
