Everton Youth Teams Thread

...love a defending performance like that where they die for the cause. See the reaction of young Gibson on the final whistle, i’m liking him lots but Feeney put in a captain’s performance.
They’re a good combination Feeney/Gibson , work well together , thought that in the last match the cup game where they didn’t have a lot to do but did it well. Interestingly, the Chelsea CB Trevoh Chalobah is viewed as the best English defender of his age and him and a Feeney have played alongside each other for England. Hard to separate the three of them tonight if you scored their performances objectively.

Do you see Feeney going on loan next season mate?

Really, really unimpressed by Connor Grant. For someone playing to earn a transfer in a few months time he should be dominating academy football. League 2 level may even be beyond him now.
Shouldn’t be getting a game imo, he has no future here so why is he taking another youngster’s place, who could be getting some good experience at that level

Yeah you’d think so mate, Pennington had a loan, to Coventry I think , when quite young and it worked for him. We’re told there’s a plan for each of them , but sometimes it depends on what’s available - we wouldn’t want him clogging away in League 2 , but Championship may mean he doesn’t start games and gets wasted like Galloway. Plus we need to balance who would take his place, I could see him going on loan in 12 months time and it allowing Michael Collins to step up from the u18s, assuming Collins continues to make the same progress he has.

If Unsy take the Oxford job, you have to think he'd be eager to take Feeney and maybe a Hornby with him.

Thought you were talking about Jose Baxter for a second. Just add “ditto” for Baxter, at times tonight he looked like a 35 year old coming back from injury. Nice gesture, but we've done our bit for him , time to show some hard professionalism for both.

Denny only other centre mid on the bench that's probs why. Beni in 1st team squad I bet.
When we signed him , there was talk about playing Markelo as a defensive mid. I thought he had one of his best games for us tonight , he was up against some talented/tricky players. Then again, we don’t seem to have right back cover. In fact we didn’t have any defenders on the bench tonight, odd that though Denny can play defence at a push.

Thinking about it , the four who started are our only U23s defenders as far as I’m aware , others we’ve used this season are either with the first team , on loan or sold.

We are light but we have the U18’s to call upon. Markelo looks far better offensively to defensively for me but played well tonight.

Broadhead suffered from a bad playing surface tonight I feel. Couldn’t do barely any ground work tonight.

In reality the Oxford job is perfect for Unsy. They have Ledson, just signed Brannigan and taken a few other promising kids on loan from PL academies. It’s almost the perfect job.

I think it could well benefit us greatly too mate. I posted a while back about finding a club that we could trust and have a long term arrangement with to loan out our youngsters, where we knew they were going to play good football and would be looked after.

I can't imagine a better scenario for us - and him - than letting him have 1-2 players a year that could improve them and inject talent into their side.

They will be probably be League One again next season, which is perfect for lads their first time out. Now imagine if he can get them promoted and we have a championship club to funnel players to.

Almost an extension of our academy...
