Everton Youth Teams Thread

The biased commentary, obviously quick to criticise Hornby. Then they started to praise Solanke for acting as peace maker. 10 seconds later he was booked, made the commentator look a complete idiot.
I was “ casting” to tv with Chrome and had a delayed feed on my iPad so watched the melee a couple of times. Hornby and Jones contested the ball, some kind of contact occurred but heh it’s a derby. Hornby was mouthing something to Jones then big boy Solanke appeared on the scene, two bookings were then inevitable. Markelo was lucky too , he hoiked Woodburn aside with an arm around his neck.

Men against boys tonight, literally really. Liverpool had 2 lads who are probably paid more than our entire under 23's set up in Solanke and Ward. They are a lot older, and more experienced which showed tonight. We are captained by a 17 year old. The differences in size and power really showed tonight.

It's a long way off our strongest under 23's, and thats compounded further with lads like Davies and Banningime being with the first team.

The number 10 Curtis Jones for Liverpool looks a really talented player though. The best they've produced since Sterling. Looks a great talent to me.

...I was also impressed with Jones. He has a bit of arrogance about him which I don’t mind if that’s supported by talent. I wouldn’t compare him to Sterling, though. From what I remember, Sterling was a costly youth purchase, whereas Jones has genuinely come through the ranks.

No I agree and on another post I tried to qualify that with the phrase "local" lad i.e. one they have produced.

Sometimes you watch a match and the best player on the pitch is very visible. The players on the opponents team are trying to kick them and players on their own team keep giving them the ball. That was Jones last night for me. You can tell a lot about the other lads viewed him, the ones who train with him every day. He was also on the same team as Solanke and Woodburn who have first team experience and it was still Jones who not just stood out, but the other lads really looked too.

He reminded me a little bit of how Walsh would play for Everton, but his physique his vastly different to his which ultimately held Walsh back.

...agree. His running style reminded me a little of Anthony Evans, although Jones appears a better prospect based on what we saw last night.

Interesting that we, as Evertonians, are highlighting a young opposition player from our local rivals. I doubt there’d be much conversation if the situation was in reverse.

I think our ability to do the above differentiates us from them really Eggs, and as I always say I don't hold myself to the morality of most LFC fans I meet (with a few notable exceptions).

When I watch any young team play I primarily look at EFC players, but you have to be objective when you see a talented player for whoever they play for. I was as impressed as I've been in some time with Jones last night, especially when I saw he was still 17. Hopefully for him and them he keeps his head down, I saw recently Marcus Edward from Spurs has had his loan spell to Norwich cut short due to attitude difficulties. You can go from being a talented 17 year old to a 19 year old who is a bit out on a limb quite quickly if you lack the maturity to capitalise on it.

..shame about Edward, he was a stand-out when I saw him a few seasons back. As you indicate, ability is only part of the requirement.

Still time for him to sort himself out at least. From what I read it seemed as though he has a "difficult" character (extreme introversion for example) which Norwich were less willing to put up with obviously as he's less of an investment for them. Still time for him to mature I think.

Last game of the season, nothing to play for and he picks Garbutt. Surely he could have give the under 18 left back a go.

At least Grant & Hennan are gone. Abd nice to see a change of keeper Hewelt has been shocking when I’ve seen him lately.

I don't know why Hilton was dropped in the first place as apart from his first couple of games where he looked nervous I thought he had done well
