Everton Youth Teams Thread

...you would think if he was going to have a future at Everton he wouldn’t have gone on loan. We only had Baines who was vulnerable to injury yet this lad still went off to Bolton and we subsequently used a back up RB (Martina) as cover for Baines. It seemed odd to me when Robinson was allowed to go on loan, I could only conclude he had no future because the circumstances were perfect for him to stay.
Well in fairness to him mate the decisions made last summer where at best complete bullocks and at worse insane. Connolly and Galloway who have played left back also allowed on loan , the sole remaining left back cover Garbutt not even registered for the PL or Europe. I’m lukewarm on Robinson, he’s athletic, goes forward with pace but has looked weak defensively. Maybe his stint at Bolton has improved him but my impression is he played mostly as a wingback or midfield so I’m still not sure how he rates defensively. It’s hard to see how he’s any better than Galloway and Garbutt at a similar age.

..totally agree, some of the summer loan decisions were bizarre and it’s yet another situation where you wonder what Steve Walsh was thinking.

As you say, Robinson looks a fine runner. He particularly impressed with his attacking prowess in last season’s U23 Derby at Goodison (I think it was the Derby). I suspect the club will offload all the loanees if they can, given that Allardyce already talks of the squad being too big.

No Everton players in the U17 England Euro team.

None at U16.

One in the U15s (centre back Hagan?)
Yeah Harry Hagan has played at 5 a few times recently for England u15. The other two who’s names I saw at u15 were Lewis Dobbin a striker who got a lot of goals at the Youdan tournament last year and Isaac Price. Haven’t seen them mentioned this season, maybe they’re u16 now, but not apparently in any squad.
I see Beni has got a four year contract extension, which reminded me , we didn’t appear at the Dallas Cup this year , odd that.

I havent seen any fixtures but England of course are also there so likely a lot of interest for us in England v Scotland. Billy Gilmour is the ex Rangers wonder kid, stil only 16, that Chelsea took from Rangers last summer . He was part of Chelsea’s Youth Cup winning team, a classy player for his age. These are the tournaments we should have a few scouts at.

..i’m sure we will.

I think our ability to do the above differentiates us from them really Eggs, and as I always say I don't hold myself to the morality of most LFC fans I meet (with a few notable exceptions).

When I watch any young team play I primarily look at EFC players, but you have to be objective when you see a talented player for whoever they play for. I was as impressed as I've been in some time with Jones last night, especially when I saw he was still 17. Hopefully for him and them he keeps his head down, I saw recently Marcus Edward from Spurs has had his loan spell to Norwich cut short due to attitude difficulties. You can go from being a talented 17 year old to a 19 year old who is a bit out on a limb quite quickly if you lack the maturity to capitalise on it.
Have to agree on that last point.
Too many young lads get too much too soon and their attitudes change for the worse
That lad whose name escapes me who started at United , went to West Ham and Italy had bundles of talent but was a bit of a .....
George Green for us was much the same although now I’m reading he has mental health issues

Interesting article by an Evertonian analyst (did that good blog in the summer about Sandro)

His passing model identifies players most similar to others (about where they pick up the ball, where they pass it and how successful it is) and in amongst the elite passers of Europe sits Kieran Dowell. He is the nearest thing to Kevin De Bruyne style wise around.
