Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yeh think he's well thought of. He only turned 19 in January and coming from London up here must take some time to get used to. Think he'll end up into the sort of midfielder we'll be looking for this Summer in the first team.

On Gibson...he was clearly seen as a major talent and i know his fee after appearances etc is meant to hit £6mil if he does well...wasnt Adeniran £1.5mil in cash--any idea how much down for gibson or how the deal is structured?

Gibson again...how has he looked alongside Feeney in the centre? As Feeney has been given minutes in a couple of europa games could both be bench options or at least 4th choice between them next season for the first team?

Would be nice to fill the squad places up so cash can be used on major signings.

This is how we'll approach things from now on according to Brands' interview: "We don't have to choose a manager that only wants to buy players".

No idea on the Gibson/Adeniran payment structures. Would probably say - and get a few slaps for it - that Gibson is already ahead of Feeney.

..Gibson has been a stand-out for me: attitude, physicality and ability. He was skipper for the last games despite him being the youngest. I thought his best chance of coming through was as a LB but i’m not so sure now. He’s got bulk without being particularly tall.

Saying that, it’s such a massive step up and I wouldn’t say he’ll make it. I like him.

Feeney looked our best defender in one of the europa league games which i suppose isnt saying much so if Gibson is the same level at 18 and of course left sided its quite exciting.

Centre backs are always quite tricky to bring througg with us. Man United tried it a few times in recent years then sold them (brown, O'Shea and the chap at WBA) and again a couple under Van Gaal.

If Gibson keeps improving then aside from proving himself on loan he could find a fast track into our side as a left back i imagine like Holgate and Stones before him -- but Feeney looks more of a pure centre back to me so may take a bit longer.

Interesting to see what happens now with brands at the helm...whether these types are fast tracked or loaned out.

Gibson is pointless at left-back. Sorry @Eggs

..for those as old as me, Gibson is in the Kevin Beattie mould in that he’s barrel chested, powerful lad as opposed to the height you associate with modern CBs. I think the coaches like him and I think they rate him.

Barrel chested is how I'd describe James and Craig beattie too.. Must be something in the name.

...I thought it was his best chance given the Baines situation and the rarity of bringing young CBs through, but I am persuaded that CB could be his best position. Time will tell.
Not seen much of Gibson but he would have to be one hell of a player to get PL games at centre half before his 20th birthday. He will more than likely get run outs at full back first, it’s just the way of the world.
