Everton Youth Teams Thread

Thought Virginia did well during the 90 minutes. Looked confident, although for some reason he seemed a lot smaller jumping up and down in the shoot-out.
Foulds seemed quietly effective.
Adeniran went off the boil a bit in the second half but to compensate Markelo seemed to play a bit better in midfield.
Bowler was impressive, although would be interested to see how much he helps his full back out.

Since it is very much youth development in this competition, only Browning and Galloway with multiple loans and first team appearances get criticism:
Browning looked to be playing well within himself - was decent but not outstanding.
Galloway looks shot, without confidence in his ability to play a decent ball and easily beaten on occasion.

The glaring thing for me , sadly, was just how poor Galloway was , how far he has fallen from the promise of a few years ago . I thought Foulds had a decent game , possibly the best I’ve seen him play as a Centre Back, and there’s the crux of it . About 18 months ago Galloway came back from somewhere , played CB for the U23s and looked pretty decent in a few end of season games. If Galloway was showing anything in training and actual games he’d be the one playing left centre back, not Foulds who even on his day is not as good as the younger Gibson.
Though it was a good team performance tonight, no one stood out as being ready to break into the first team squad this season. Evans missed a sitter that he would have calmly slotted away 3 years ago when he burst on the scene with a bagful of goals, then stupidly got sent off. Adeniran showed the most promise and also the physicality to suggest there’s more to come . Sambou still leaves me undecided, that was a very well taken goal tonight and he’s developing good physical strength, we just don’t see enough goals from him.

Sambou. A scorer of good goals. Not a good goal scorer.

After reading some of the threads on here I'm afraid I have to say we just need to get rid of Mampala with immediate effect. Missing a penalty to lose a shoot out can ONLY mean that he has a loser's mentality, and that sort of thing needs to be eradicated from the club. There's no room for sentiment i'm afraid, the lad is not a winner and needs to be hounded out right now. NSNO.

Hound them out while there young is what I say.

Anyone know if there's any truth to the Arsenal trying to sign up Ryan Astley rumour? It's come from the Mirror so obviously dubious but still....

By the way this is not intended to be a set up for "never gonna give you up" gags :p

Players are shopping around a lot more for their first pro contract now. Lots of poaching going on. Players know their value and want pathways to the first team open to them. We are active in that market.

Astley will hopefully stay as he is already a regular u23 player with Unsy a big fan. Nothing to suggest any unhappiness.

.
Astley is 16 , and has signed a Scholar deal , he cannot sign a Professional deal until he is 17 next month so the fact we don’t have him tied down on a professional deal is not an error by the club, they can’t do it yet.
I have no inside knowledge here but I’d expect the club to be on top of this. All scholars have plans drawn up for them with targets for the season etc Astley will be the same. Again , I have no inside knowledge but he’s been with the club a number of years, will know most of the other scholars , including Rhys Hughes and Josh Hosie who he’s played for Wales with through the youth ranks, therefore there’s no evidence he’s unsettled or anything.
In my view, I’ve said it before, Astley is the best prospect in our new batch of Scholars , maybe in the whole u18s set up but need to see more , and others have seen it too and written about him. Hardly surprising that Arsenal have picked him out too, so to me more of a compliment than a worry we may lose him. But , yeah who knows in the murky world of youth football.

Speaking of the murky world of youth football I’ve been told their is a story to break on Everton in the Sunday Telegraph fairly soon which will almost certainly result in a fine and possibly a ban for us.
