Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yeah it does look that way. Phillips and Mampala are in the same year as Hornby and have a contract until June 19 , so they’re going to have to prove themselves at U23s level to get another contract. Throw in Gordon who's a different type of attacker but same year as Simms and Adedoyin , then add in Sambou who’s a bit older and you’ve got seven young attackers, a richness of attackers/strikers indeed.

All seven have shone at some time, but harsh reality is if one comes through to be a first team regular it will be fantastic and save us £30 mill for a striker or even back up striker. Two coming through would be really amazing , any more would be very unlikely. So which one(s) do people think will make it.?

You have to be harsh to try to answer that.I’d eliminate Sambou and Mampala as they haven’t done enough at U23s level. We haven’t see Simms, Adedoyin, Phillips at U23s yet so cant judge. But then neither Gordon or Hornby have shone at U23s either this season. A lovely discussion to be having , makes a change from recent years when it’s been midfielders/ DMids where we had the riches.

I'll come back more tomorrow, if I were to pick 2 I'd probably say Gordon/Hornby who are further along . Adedoyin seems to have a lot going for him though. Gordon I see as more of a 10. Whats interesting is Hunt and particularly Carroll behind him look very promising. It is strangely becoming another golden generation after the Davies age group.

Whats interesting is most of the names above were probably ahead of DCL in terms of their performances at a similar age.

Match report from first time at u23 game

Everton by far the better team and unlucky not to win..
I was impressed with the back four Kyle Lewis tyias Morgan..
Dennis & bassala look good fast strong players ...
I was impressed at how fast the players can run in short bursts and how strong and physical they were.
Special shout out to Kyle John who played through an injury for 60 mins and never moaned once..
Took my lad and he loved it , took him to everton arsenal two years ago at the Emirates and didn’t enjoy it that much but after tonight he gets the everton so thank you the U23

Cheers for that, good notes on Kyle John , we’ve talked a lot about our talented u18s but great to see one starting at U23s and doing well , as we don’t seem to hava a natural right back at U23s .

It was weird watching a right back play like unsworth plays him.. never touch tight twenty yards off his man but lightning pace to shuffle back over to pick up man...and totally committed for the team has he just made it up to u23 level..looks committed unlike the first time I saw prity boy garbutt more worried about his hair

How did Beni look on his first game back from injury?. Also the keeper who we bought from Arsenal. Did he have much to do?

The keeper didn’t have much too do really...
I’m hooked on the u23 now I’ve just looked into age and nationality off players ,, can’t believe how young some were and nice too see so many English lads.. how many though are scousers and which ones

Of the group that were in the squad tonight John, Feeney, Baningime, Browning, Broadhead, Charsley, Gordon, Kiersey, and Astley have all been at everton since they were about 10. Most are local lads although Beni was actually born in the Congo. Astley and Broadhead are both from North Wales so I suppose you could call them honorary scousers.

Kyle John is really a product of lack of natural right backs at u18/U23s , an odd position we’ve found ourselves in. He seemed to play midfield/ wide last season for the u18 but this season has played nearly all his games at right back. This was his first start for the U23s, seem to remember him coming on as a sub in one of those Cups recently when we shuffled the defence about.
From memory we’ve had Kenny once, Charsley and Markelo as our main right backs with players like Alex Denny and Danny Bramall also covering there pre season . Non except Kenny is a natural right back , and non of the others have really claimed this position - Markelo is the best and could play there but we see him further forward in midfield. Outcome is that if he can take his chance John could make this spot his own .

Astley didnt,@tim gabbott will be the person to ask as he was there
They called Ryan during second have who was warming up, he ran over to the bench sat next to rihno a few words were said then off he went laughing,, they pulled a cruel joke on him pretending he was going on ..
The two subs who got on Gordon if I’m right similar to Wayne Rooney in body mass had a couple of chances and probably should off scored
The other lad that got on was Shayne I think looked ok
