Everton Youth Teams Thread

...stand-out for me too, Fred. Can’t see him getting a contract from us but can see a club taking a punt on him in January. Perhaps his performances are more an indication that those around him are a long way off Premiership standard. Food for thought.
He certainly is a couple of levels above at that age group. Food for thought as you say.
With just 6 months left on his contract, we wouldn't attract much if any transfer fee. I'd be looking to loan him out with an incentive of a contract if he does really well. We have nothing to lose and player will be a free agent at the end of it so he has nothing to lose either.

He was the standout player in his age group coming through the ranks, winning numerous youth caps at different ages, and made his first team debut aged 20, so he isn't exactly a late blossomer. His career has since been blighted by injuries. I've seen stranger things happen in football in my lifetime.;)

..I think it comes to a point where these lads have to play or moved on. I honestly can’t see the point in keeping Browning, he’s largely failed in loan spells and the squad is overloaded. I appreciate he might turn out to be decent but we can’t keep hold of them ‘just in case’.

Never said we should Eggs. He's out of contract in the summer. If we sell him in January nobody is going to give us a decent fee for him, they'll just wait until the summer when they can get him for nothing. So why not loan him out. I'm sure there have been scouts from the Championship teams watching our U23s this season, so I'm sure there won't be any shortage of takers for a loan in January. We can say to him do really well and you may be rewarded with a new contract. It's then down to Silva/Brands to decide whether he has anything more to offer us.

It's not a case of keeping him "just in case". He has to absolutely boss it in the championship to earn a new contract otherwise I'm sure we wouldn't be interested. As I said, I can't see what the harm will be in loaning him rather than selling him in January.

..sorry Fred, misread your post. Yep, I agree with that. I imagine the club are not expecting a fee, so might settle for simply moving him on. I suspect he’ll take a big drop in wages but a signing fee might tempt him to move in January or on a loan deal as you suggest.

Problem with playing in the youth leagues -even U23 level - is that 75% of the players at that level will be out the game entirely within a few years.

League 2 is vastly higher level of football.

The problem with League 2 is so few of the teams play the style of football that PL clubs want their youth products to be playing.

And so few of the young PL talents want to drop through the levels as the fear of not standing out is real.

Take Dowell, way too good for U23 football, great first 7 months on loan in the Championship.

Now what? Not quite Everton ready, other PL teams want to develop their own players.

Germany? Holland? France? Spain? Russia?

I'd hate to see his talent wasted like it is at the moment.

In Dowell's case I think Germany or France would both be good options. I wouldn't send him back out to Championship again. I think that's fine for defenders, combative midfielders and even strikers who need exposing to open age football at a decent level. But it can be a graveyard for some of the more cultural midfielders. I was actually pleasantly surprised how well he did for the first half of his loan spell at Forest last season.

Think he could have a good career in the championship

Dowell is good enough for us, he's just not yet as good as Sigurdsson, So Silva ain't gonna drop Sigurdsson to play him, and 2 places on the bench are currently being wasted on Baines/Extra striker which is why he doesn't make the bench. A loan to a good Germany team would be best for him. The championship is too much about physicality than actual talent.

Its a shame really i though Silva was gonna be good for our young players but guess i was wrong.

Come off it, he's given opportunities to most of them. Plus we're practically the youngest team in the league

He is managing the youngsters really well imo. Kenny, davies, and dcl all played way too much last year. He has 4 main youngsters (lookman as well) who he is giving 20 mins or so to most games. Dcl has started a few, davies has started a few and given captaincy which suggest silva sees his value to the squad and maybe views him as long term captain. Lookman is getting more and more minutes while Kenny is injured. That is how they should be managed unlike last season when they started every game.

You can’t have a team full of the youngsters just because they have come from the academy. They need eased in over time which we didn’t have the opportunity to do because of all the reasons last season. But we can now. And they will be better for it.

The last few games I have seen of the u23s one player has stood out, and that player is Browning.

I know he is now 24 and is very much a man playing against boys at his level, so it is hard to form a proper opinion of him. But if you look through his career he is a man who has been plagued by injuries and this is the first decent run of games he has had for as long as I can remember. From a defensive aspect he looks an absolute specimen. Pace, power and strength in abundance.

I'd given up on him as an Everton player tbh, but he has looked so so dominant this season I'm now asking myself whether there is still a glimmer of a chance for him. he's out of contract in the summer. If I was Brands/Silva I'd be looking to get him a loan at a decent Championship club in January, and be saying to the lad, if you go there and smash it then you'll earn yourself another contract. If he is indeed over his injury woes he could save us a lot of money in the transfer window.

Id given up on him too but he was a talent when he broke through. Too many long term injuries ruined his development, add to that we also had Stones in the first team blocking his path. Id be happy with him being 4th choice CB instead of keeping the likes on Jagielka, and it would allow Holgate to go on loan for a few months.

What about a Southampton, Newcastle, Cardiff, or Huddersfield? Dowell would be a class above in terms of skill to whatever they've got in those positions. My fear is the relegation candidates go the other other way and just try and get clean sheets. But you need to score goals to stay up. Fulham would be ideal, but they probably feel like they've got enough experienced options up top.

Dowell walks into Huddersfields, Newcastles and Cardiffs team. your clearly forgettibg he jist turned 21, when Sigurdsson was 21 he was in the Championship and wouldnt of gotten in to any of those teams. We'd be stupid to send our best young player on loan to crap teams fighting relegation.
