Wigan Athletic want Everton midfielder Kieran Dowell, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.
The Latics could see him as a potential replacement for Nick Powell, who is being linked with a move away in the January transfer window.
Dowell, who is 21-years-old, is likely to leave Everton on loan this winter to gain some more first-team experience in the Championship. He hasn’t featured for their senior side this season but has played for them in the EFL Trophy twice.
He joined his boyhood club Everton at the age of seven and rose through the youth ranks at Goodison Park. Dowell was a regular for the Toffees’ youth sides at all levels and made his first-team debut in December 2014 in a Europa League tie against FC Krasnodar.
Dowell has since featured twice more for Everton but spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest in the Championship and impressed for them. He played 43 times for the Reds in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.
The midfielder has also made 11 caps for the England U21s having previously represented the Three Lions at U16, U17, U18 and U20 levels in the past.
Losing Nick Powell would be a real blow for Wigan in January and they will do their best to keep him at the DW Stadium. Nevertheless, Kieran Dowell showed his ability at Nottingham Forest last season and would be a ready-made replacement.
