Everton Youth Teams Thread

Galloway can’t get a game at U23 level at the moment (don’t think he’s injured) whereas Browning is the standout player in the team but at 24 that’s to be expected really. Browning’s contract runs out next Summer so a deal in January might happen.
As we never publish any info on injuries I suspect Galloway is injured , along with Gibson and Foulds, hence our lack of a “proper” left back recently

...every U23 game i’ve seen Browning has been the standout player. It might say lots about the standard, or he might just be playing very well. I’m always wary of players who’s form picks up when a contract is running down but he’s been good.

Brownings not a youngster anymore and I doubt he has a future here but in his current form, a club might take a chance on him. Galloway doesn’t seem to be involved.
Whenever he's been in the first team for Everton, I've never seen him look poor. How did Galloway fall off a cliff too?

Simms record is significantly better than Greenwoods at under 18's.
In fairness to @Zatara mate it was me who brought up Mason Greenwood, my point was that Greenwood has this season not only scored at u18s , but at U19s in Europe and at u 23s level, something I want to see Simms doing i.e scoring at a higher level. While he’s “only “ scored 11 goals from 8 games at u18 s Greenwood’s been playing up. But last season he was the top goalscorer in our u18 league with 17 goals. And , significantly, he was a 16 year Schoolboy at the time, so arguably he’s got a better record over two seasons than Simms.

He’s only just turned 17 and is a first year Scholar who’s made a big impact. I wouldn’t like to detract from Simms’s goalscoring achievements but for me Greenwood deserves to be the more highly rated at this time.

..it’s odd with Galloway, he looked decent for us but the Manager clearly didn’t fancy him as Back-up for Baines and sent him on loan. He’s struggled for game time since at a couple of clubs under a couple of different coaches so you have to think there might be flaws in his game and perhaps in his approach.

Browning too appeared very inconsistent at Sunderland in particular, although he has struggled with injury throughout his career. He’s not a youngster now.

Both Silva and Brands have spoken of the squad being too big so I can’t see either of these being given new contracts given their records over recent seasons, although @Barnfred 55 feels Browning still has the rest of the season to impress and get a new deal.

I think with brands mentioning that he would look at the squads below the first team (after summer window) it will be quite interesting to see the findings.

Whether each side plays the same as the first team or we make a few additions from overseas to supplement certain positions in squads.

I imagine brands knows most of the talented kids around...

Can almost guarantee Greenwood will go on to better things than Simms.

..I agree. Supplementing at U23 has already proved fruitful (DCL, Holgate, Stones etc) although we haven’t yet had much success buying from abroad. I think that strategy will continue.

It probably came across wrongly, but it wasn't a dig at @Zatara mate I just thought its an interesting comparison.

Simms record is exceptional at this level. I am quite sceptical about Simms (to a certain extent I would say he's reprodocing the same paradigm that we saw with Brewster and Hope before him) but what you can't take away from him is that his record is significantly better than either of those, and most of the lads to play 18s football from most club la of late.

He needs to kick on though. We have great depth at striker level, so it will be a big test to make the best step to the 23s but that's how it should be. For that reason Gordon remains the brightest prospect for us in my opinion.

I remember about 18 months ago Galloway coming back from an unsuccessful loan and being allowed to play for our U23s alongside Holgate in a streamed game and , in that game, he looked the better centre back. Maybe not the physicality for PL but you’d think he’d be able to make a career somewhere and work his way up.

..well he was an international youth CB but if he’s not got the physicality for the top flight he might struggle on that front elsewhere. Regardless, I think he’ll struggle to find a club at Championship level based on his performances on loan.
