Everton Youth Teams Thread

A good result in the end , a win but one which Paul Tait won’t be entirely happy with , plenty to still work on . Lots of skill being shown today which is encouraging, but it’s getting near the time when decisions on contracts will be made, not everybody on the pitch today will get one. Of the 2nd years playing today you’d say Simms, Gordon, Anderson , Iverson looked good enough to progress. Adedoyin was disappointing apart from his goal , he’s got the skill but needs to be more involved, the two full backs Zuk and Warren were ok but I’m not sure they’ve shown enough yet ,
Overall, though perhaps not at their best today , you’d say this is our best u18s in the past few years.

As predictable as a predictable thing on a predictable day, pathetic.
That's why I got the bus to the game, wasn't very impressed by the performance to be honest, very very casual, played
well at times but there was no real energy and effort to go and impress how good they could be, the second half was a lot worse, good goals but Sunderland could have scored a couple more as well entirely due to the sloppy play and half heartedness of the Everton performance, very disappointed, maybe I expected too much.

Good result for the 16’s

..I love a prolific goalscorer and Ellis Simms is a prolific scorer. The real test is yet to come.
I think it’s time Brands has a word and gets him shifted up to the U23s with Unsworth told to play him every game
Trophies at this level while nice are not the main aim
Seeing if players are good enough to step up is the priority
Simms seems to be strolling the U18s and like you say he needs to be tested
Goalscorers are a breed apart and to bring a good one through the academy would be a major achievement
Jeffers could have been that player for us as could Rooney but financial constraints dictated otherwise

...to be fair, Bri, we don’t know for sure if keeping these lads largely within their own age group is club strategy (Brands) or Unsworth’s team selection. I have a feeling it might be club policy, i’m seem to recall that being the case. I’m sure the lads on here who provide such brilliant input will let us know.

I’m with you, though. My preference is to get them out of their comfort zone and test them.
