Everton Youth Teams Thread

...to be fair, Bri, we don’t know for sure if keeping these lads largely within their own age group is club strategy (Brands) or Unsworth’s team selection. I have a feeling it might be club policy, i’m seem to recall that being the case. I’m sure the lads on here who provide such brilliant input will let us know.

I’m with you, though. My preference is to get them out of their comfort zone and test them.

I think the move to U23s age has had an impact in that we keep them til they’re a bit older , maybe meaning less opportunity to promote u18 earlier , don’t really know .
I think everybody wants to see Simms playing at U23s . Personally I can’t fault his development playing in the u18s . I remember when he first showed up at that Cee something preseason tournament about 18 months ago , looked big , strong, clumsy , scored 2 or 3 goals and missed about 4 in a match. Same last season, scored some , tripped over his feet and missed some more, like a cross between a young Lukaku and Oumar . This season he’s tucked them away brilliantly, can’t fault his strike rate even assuming he’s missed a few. That hasn’t happened by accident, he’s been coached well at u18 and worked hard on his deficiencies , the confidence is flowing through him you could see that on Saturday.

I can’t see us keeping him back after Christmas due to a club policy. Sometimes players have been good , scored a few goals at u18 , but the coaches never judged them good enough to step up e.g. Delial Brewster , Simms is different .

Do we have a game this afternoon?

Can you ever remember a lad with his numbers mate? Jeffers was good (close to a goal a game) nut never close to this lad.

...prolific scorers are common at schoolboy level but that tends to level out. As lads get older, keepers and defenders become better which makes Simms’ numbers very impressive. Be really interesting if he’s been as prolific as a schoolboy or whether his ascendency is against the normal transition.

It does but I don't remember a player having the equivalent record. The flip is he is a very big lad and perhaps this will have an impact. It was clear Jeffers was a very clever player who didn't rely on physique (or massively on speed) so his skills translated well.

Great spotting mate! That’s an impressive result as Arsenal u18 have been on fire this season, usually 1or 2nd in the Southern Section . Always hard to tell with team lineups as they had a good win Saturday too, but it’s still a good win whatever the teams.
Both were in last 10mins,for us,but still not certain who scored-asked 3 times lol, till they say or everton say or it appears, not sure

TABLE -
U18S PREM LEAGUE CUP

EVERTON 9 POINTS FROM 3 GAMES
ARSENAL 6 POINTS FROM 3 GAMES
WEST BROM 1 FROM 2 GAMES
FULHAM 0 FROM 2 GAMES

And should mean we go through to knockout stage.
