Everton Youth Teams Thread

Another one on a 2 1/2 year deal. Not sure how long they were giving 17yr olds in the past. But I think that’s a really good way to go.
My impression is that quite often the 17 year olds / 1st year Scholars who stand out get 2 1/2 year contracts to tie them down . If they’re good 2nd years/ 18 it may be 2 1/2 or 1 1/2 years if they announce it early/ in January. If they’re offered a contract in June at the end of their Scholarship it’s often only 1 year. I guess it’s an indicator of how their potential is viewed. I would add that’s me just putting thoughts together based upon contracts in recent years, not something official I’ve seen.

The past few years we’ve started announcing these contracts in January, and sometimes those who are not being kept on have been told too , though that’s usually in May.

Doncaster-born Carroll, 17, has penned a deal until the end of June 2021, having played a big role in helping the young Blues into the upper echelons of the Premier League (North) table this season

Listening to of the Stoke Youth Cup game, we sailed into a 2-0 half time lead with him on the pitch , but when he came off at half time we weren’t the same team in the second half , commentators mentioned this. Along with Mackenzie Hunt and Iversen we have a boss midfield and Carroll really makes them tick. The inevitable comparisons for me are with Liam Walsh and Ryan Ledson , standing out in the youth sides but failing to break into our first team, hopefully Carroll will go further than them.

Two 16 year old schoolboys on the bench Lewis Dobbin, Lewis Warrington , Dobbin has certainly featured recently including Youth Cup v Stoke. Warrington’s name has appeared before, don’t think he’s actuall got game time though.

....report that we have made an approach to West Brom for their Head of Academy Recruitment, Stephen Hopcroft.
I know nothing about him, but on the basis of their u18s being bottom of our league, their U23s near bottom of U23 League 2 I’m underwhelmed. Sam Field is the only youngster I can think of that WBA have brought through recently, Izzy Brown and Said Berhino before that, but there’s likely to be others I don’t know of. Seems like a safe pair of hands tasked with restoring our reputation following Martin Waldron’s dismissal.
