Everton Youth Teams Thread

And of course Arsenal were rumoured to be sniffing around. He’s worth it , no doubt about it.

Well that could be another long discussion with differing views! There’s an argument that says developing two outstanding youngsters in a mediocre team that wins nothing is better than developing 11 good players who are average but a good enough team to win the league. As an example , the Chelsea U23s we beat 2-0 the other night had 5 or 6 very young players , some of whom have been outstanding at youth international level, yet they lost . If we win the league , players like Browning, Charsley, Broadhead and Sambou will have made a huge contribution, and hopefully will have good careers , but not with us. Winning titles with a few outstanding prospects would of course be ideal.

I'd honestly rather finish last but with a super young group that all look like potential world-beaters but that's just me.

Ah, me too - I miss read your original post as “ Development leads to Youth Titles “ .... therefore titles are more important . I see you were using it as a “greater than “ sign . So we’re in agreement ......just that you were wrong in using a > sign, I didn’t expect it’s use on GOT!

I wasn't wrong in using it! You were wrong in intepreting it lol

But yes, I really don't care one bit if we win the league, especially since we play with Browning, Charsley, Sambou etc. that are - in my opinion - just pointless blocking the path of younger and better players.

Said a few times it's time to get rid of Unsworth. I feel as though he's using the U23s for his own purpose, ie improving his CV to put himself in line for other jobs. It isn't just the fact that he's continually playing lads that have no future with us when there are clearly some good uns in the U18s that need testing at the higher level. It's also the style of play seen in the U23s which is definitely safety first and bears no resemblance to the style Silva is trying to introduce to the club.

There was an article in the echo about Brands written by one of the coaches he worked with
Have a good insight into how he ran the academy and scouting network at PSV
I don’t think Unsworth fits the criteria Brands looks for

I posted a link to the article

Yeh I’ve mentioned a couple of times now how frustrating his lineups are. Definitely going for wins rather that getting players ready for the first team system. I expect sweeping changes across this club this summer now Brands has had a year to settle in.

Everton u18s play the 1st of 2 games in a week away to middlesbrough tomorrow with a 12.30ko,the other the prem league cup game same time, same place next week, and they will be hoping to move back top as Liverpool played there game a week ago in the league to move top by 2 points at present

A good read indeed. Lots of good bits , this took my eye “

“I have been pleased to see the under-15s, u-16s, u-18s and u-23s and I know almost all of the players and I was involved in the decisions for scholarships for professionals.”

The u15s and u16s are literally all we’ve got at the moment as the recruitment ban kicks in and we can’t bring in any from English clubs as we’ve done in the past. From reports and names appearing in International squads they appear to be a decent bunch. But if Brands knows them he can start to take steps to address the weaknesses by getting in decent youngsters from abroad. It’s a ripe area to explore but our misses have outnumbered our hits in recent years , so it could be exciting if Brands gets this aspect right.

I think Astley and Carroll are the biggest prospects in that age group so its good to get them tied down early. Hopefully some of the deadwood will be moved out the u23s and they will both get games at that level as I feel players start to stall if kept back to long. Astley played a few at RB but I want to see him played in his natural position.
