Everton Youth Teams Thread

Great that they won and completed the double. But I thought the team performance in the 2nd half was poor. Long ball after long ball especially after the goal. The tactic seemed to be kick it the Hornby abd compete for the 2nd ball.

And no pressing, the team would just drop off and try and defend, fair enough if it was the last 10mins but it was as soon as the goal went it. It was like Moyes was on the touch line, as soon as the goal went I’m off went a forward for a defender.

Surely the philosophy moving forward is for all the age groups to play like the first team, I think unsworth will move on in the summer as will a number of that team abd the previous winning team. And hopefully Brands brings in a coach who will work Alongside silva.

Looking at that team tonight, the GK and Astley, feeney and Gibson are the only ones likely to have a chance in the first team Bowler-has an outside chance, the rest haven’t a hope in hell.

can someone explain why a cup final was played at goodison, surely a bit of an advantage for our players?
If it was not Goodison,it was St James Park, when it was a 2 leg final,it was at each opposition's grounds, and usually is at the finalist ground-now a draw i think when a one off

So positive of you.... maybe don't judge the lads on one game and think that players develop at different rates and ages, so the ones who didn't play to great tonight could be brilliant in a year or two.

It’s great to win don’t get me wrong, but thats not the main purpose of the Academy.

And brilliant in a year of two. In 2 years. Markelo. Adeniran, Evans, Broadhead Hornby, Sambou will all be 22/23 and Galloway 25. I read we have the oldest under 23 side. Let’s be in honest if some of these haven’t had a sniff of first team football by now they never will.

And I’m not judging them on one game, Ive seen them plenty of times this season, he’s built a great defensive team, but also a very negative one, but is unsworth actually improving players. Defenders maybe Look at the lads on loan who’ve been under him for him fir a couple of years. Have any of them shone this season?

Take Antony Gordon, considered one of best talents coming through , personally he should have had lot more game time fir the 23’s this season. Do you really want a negative coach like unsworth coaching him fir the next 2yrs. I don’t and I definitely don’t think it would help his development. Brands needs to revamp the Academy imo.

....you would hope the really good ones, the ones who become first teamers break into the U23 team before their time and progress to the first team squad as quickly. I thought Gordon would’ve made more of an impact.

Unsworth has established a team with real spirit, togetherness and organisation. Any youngster with special ability will not be stifled in that set-up. I agree we have too many ex-Everton players on the coaching staff, but the most talented will still produce given the opportunity.

I don’t think Gordon has been given enough opportunities. Ok you can’t blame Unsworth for all the players not fore filling their potential, they have to take responsibility.

But I look at last season and with nothing to play for, he was still playing Garbutt, Conor Grant and David henen. That’s a joke imo and just smacks of he’s only interested in results.

I look at Antony Evans who broke into the 23’s at 16, I seen him live in a pre-season and thought this lad has it all, if you had said to me 4yrs later he’s struggling to make an impact at Blackpool in the 3rd tier of English football I wouldn’t believe you. Again I’m not putting that all on Unsworth, but the lads on loan haven’t impressed this year and don’t look to have improved much.

...the strategy of buying top young talent is not only seeing rewards in the Premier League, it’s also a key factor in U23 success. Virginia, Gibson, Adeniran, Galloway, Bowler, Hornby of last night’s team were brought in at cost. Stones, DCL, Holgate and Lookman became established first team squad players.

Not all will come through with us, but it’s a very successful strategy, manifesting at Premiership and PL2 levels. It should be applauded.

I understand Everton have given Premier League debuts to more teenagers than any other club, and I think we have 3 of the 10 youngest Premier League goalscorers.

He's right. The team started with 4-4-2, moved to 4-4-1-1 and was very Moyes like in it's approach. I suspect Brands will rip that apart next season and rightly so as they have to be playing to the same style as the first team.
