Everton Youth Teams Thread

No mate. People did this with Simms and they need to be more realistic.

They had never seen simms play, just looked at his goal record for u18s. Gordon our most exciting player since Barkley. Absolutely no harm having him on the bench occasionally and giving him 10 or 15 mins here and there.

When we're winning lots of games, sat in a nice position in the league, playing against a Sheff United or whatever and winning, that's the kinda game to bring him on.

The kid is 18 - what's the rush?

man city 3-0 on 80-Palmer with his 2nd- Another surging run from Delap and he slips the ball to Palmer who really takes the Michael out of McIntyre and the defender with his lovely footwork to walk the ball into the net

Reverse of last season score here so far

Agree with being realistic, but realism also says Gordon is better than Simms, played more U23s games than Simms , scored goals at a higher level including England Youth, and he’s older, nearly a year on since the hype started for the then 17 year old Simms. I would be distraught if our new first team signings and other attackers proved so bad we needed an 18 year old kid to rescue us. Realism for me is he keeps training with the first team, with a bench spot along the way.

He picked up an injury early last season, but came back stronger, and I can’t help feel that playing Hornby and Sambou as our strikers and two wide men Broadhead/ Charsley or Bowler/Evans limited his game time last season, yet he was man of the match a few times. In short, I think his progress was hampered last season by not playing enough , he’s actually showing what he had then now he’s playing every week. He’s not ready to start yet but I’ll feel it’ll be a wasted season for him if he doesn’t get PL minutes this season.

Palmer now showing a straight red for tackle from behind

Yeh he’s miles better than Simms; you know I don’t rate Simms as highly as most anyway. Just tired of people seeing someone do well at U23 and demanding they get first team minutes without assessing the gap in quality. People must think it goes PL > U23 > Championship or something.

FINAL SCORE
MAN CITY U18S 3 EVERTON U18S 0

Man city made it 4 wins from 4 games,
Ironically it took Man City till 14 games in League and March to win 4 games last season, and it was v Everton
Everton are currently standing in 5th place

A thoroughly deserved victory for City where McIntyre was perhaps MotM with a string of very good saves to keep the score from becoming embarrassing for Everton with City bursting through thanks mostly to Man City's new No9 Liam Delap

Next Everton u18s League game is in 2 weeks home v Sunderland who we beat 6-0 towards the end of the season,i think we are playing Tuesday in the Interfit cup at 3pm v Blackpool, but not 100% certain yet

And Liverpool again have just scored last min, this time v Man utd to go 4-3 up,a header from close range

Yeah I agree with that, but in fairness all last season when people asked about U23s able to step up the answer on here was “No one” or maybe Gibson.
I’m fed up reading about Unsworth saying there’s a big gap between u18 and U23s, and therefore not moving up our u18s faster. There clearly is a step up and some can’t make it , but his job is to bridge that gap with the talented youngsters not leave them on the side lines and waste time at a vital age.

Yeh I don't really understand the gap between U18's and U23's anyway purely because even if the gap is large and we are losing most of our games because the team is young at least they're developing.

The dude just loves winning that pointless league.

Makes sense, though if thats the case perhaps we should have signed a couple of foreign kids to come in and aid him further...

Does seem very geared to bringing one player along.

Thats how most acad teams are, at all age groups.

1 or 2 main hopes, all rest are the support act.

He's done this before Unsworth, he'll be working him hard until he gets to a level where he thinks he's ready. Done it with Bowler and it clicked end of last season. I think he didn't play Gordon as much as we thought he would last season as well.

Whether it's right or wrong way is up for debate. But he demands a lot (and let's be honest whatever he demands it seems to work as 2 Pl titles says it does)

Wouldn't surprise me to see Simms start to get a lot more minutes as Autumn/Winter approaches

For now, it's Gordon's turn who is really stepping up to the plate and I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to see him on the bench against Sheffield Wednesday

Tbf, that does sort of follow silva's mindset too, he doesn't like just chucking new players in at the deep end. It's probably the right way because some players can lose confidence from the off and have to go down the leagues to get it back.
