Everton Youth Teams Thread

Yep Rhys Hughes. He’s usually Captain of the u18 these days, also in Wales U19s squad with Astley. He , along with Seb Quirk are the two 2nd year midfielders who have progressed and done well this year , they’re both a decent size too , with Hughes the more prominent in terms of creating chances and he’s scored maybe 3or4 goals, including penalties. I would expect him to get a professional contract, he’s appeared in at least one U23s squad, don’t think he’s started, but it’s a good marker.

From the 2nd year scholars I think it will only be Jack Barrett and Jonathan Anderson who miss out on contracts. My only problem with Hughes is there seems to be an abundance of CM in u23 and u18. He has already fell behind Onyango who is a first year scholar. Markelo, Adeniran, Denny, Iversen also Carroll was ahead of him before his injury.

Yep, players who make their mark in their first year like Onyango, Carroll and Hunt would generally be ahead of him and we were harsher last year in giving out contracts. Hughes is closer to Denny in style and physique and sometimes , in a strange way, those bigger lads do better in their 2 Nd years and beyond - I’m thinking of Simms and Ouzounidis of recent years who made better progress in their 2nd year than 1st.

Yeah some are later developers. Maybe some of the aforementioned will go out on loan and he'll get an opportunity. It would be good for us to get a few players through as it will make us more appealing to youngsters in the future. Left back seems to be the position where there is a lack of talent at the moment, whereas both CM and CB have an abundance.

Simms will never be able to emulate the skills of someone like Richarlison so wouldn’t learn much from him , but in terms of attitude, then you couldn’t wish for anyone better at our club to learn from than Oumar. Seeing Niasse’s name on an U23s team sheet makes my eyes roll, but he’s never given anything less than 100 % when playing for them and you can see from the reaction of the kids when he scores that they love him. Definitely worse players at our club to learn from than Oumar.

I don’t get that. Richarlison puts in a shift and his tackling stats are one of the highest this season for strikers and midfielders. I’ve never seen an issue with his attitude. He may fall over abit but that’s his Brazilia roots. I understand your thoughts on Niasse running around a lot but I don’t honestly see what anyone can learn from him apart from running. Richarlison plays for Brazilian National team with neymar etc, surely he could learn just as much if not more from him than niasse.

Well as I said I picked Richarlison as someone having skills that Simms wasn't likely to emulate. You may disagree, fine.
My post was disagreeing with your assessment that learning from Oumar meant “ we can throw him in the bin” . We obviously disagree, again fine.

From a work rate point of view Niasse is the ideal person. He absolutely gets the maximum from his limited talents. Simms has natural goal scoring ability so doesn't need to learn skills what he needs is to be a better all round footballer. I agree with you on this just look at DCL he learned of Niasse and his work rate had kept him in the team even when the goals have lacked. Hopefully with Simms being a natural scorer we might get the player we've been looking for a mixture of Lukaku and DCL.

In another post recently I mentioned the CEE pre season cup about 2 1/2 years ago, the stream meant we got our first glimpse of Simms - you could see a glimmer of talent , but some wrote him off as clumsy, lacking in control. He was big for his age , 16, but as likely to have the ball bounce off his knee and fall over as get a shot away. In his 1st year he didn’t do that much, but our coaches worked hard with him he obviously worked hard himself and the result was 46 goals for the u18s . His limited minutes last season for the U23s didn’t really produce much, and he couldn’t hold his place let alone be in the 1st team squad as some wanted.
Six months on and with more coaching and effort on his part he’s looking like a decent U23s striker, lots of raw edges still but he’s capable of putting the ball away if he gets the chance. For me he’s one of the biggest successes of our Academy in recent years if you measure “ Value Added” - we’ve taken a raw kid and really developed him It’ll be interesting to see just how far he can go this season.

Everton loanee Korede Adedoyin has returned to his parent club. The 18-year-old spent the first 6 months of the 2019/20 season further developing himself at Hamilton, however, with tough competition for places, the decision was mutually agreed between both clubs for a return to Everton.
Korede leaves with the best wishes from everyone at the club and we thank him for his time spent at Hamilton.

No surprise with this one.

I posted an article a couple of weeks ago about Neil Dewsnip (former Everton and England academy coach) being appointed DoF at Plymouth Argyle, thought it was a strange move at the time, I read another article about this a few days back, it turns out he worked with the Argyle manager Ryan Lowe (a Scouser) and his assistant Steven Schumacher at Bury last season, it was Schumacher that recommend him as he was his coach at Everton whilst he was with our academy. The article also mentioned that Lowe and Schumacher have watched our under 23's this season with a view to signing/loaning some of them.

Be good to have a farm team that we can build a good relationship with if they are playing the right way.
