Onyango "an absolute machine" --Paul Tait

Is he anything like the boy at Birmingham, Bellingham?
I can't comment on onyango but Bellingham is of the similar mould to that Rennes fella Camringva? He's a good size but it's his maturity and ability in the middle of the park that makes him standout. Good passer, dribbler ect but his game awareness is expentional esp in a complex position like CM

Per wiki Bellingham is 5'11 and Camavinga 6ft while Onyango is 6'3...all have room to grow as theyre still 16/17. Vieira is 6'4.

I get the impression that Camavinga is going to be a destroyer (with great passing skills) so basically a great all round anchor to a midfield.

Bellingham i think looks a bit more of box to box type. Doesnt have power like Camavinga but is more attack minded.

Onyango is described as "like Fellaini" as hes tall i guess...would be good to know more about his playing style and who hes like.

442 that Vieira/Petit partnership was amazing. I dont think too many other teams have tried a combo like that but these 3 kids seem to have the potential to...

Instead of asking “who he’s like” which is always a strange question you could just wait and catch a match he plays or try find replays from this season.

Camavinga and Bellingham have proven they can play in the middle against men. Camavinga has steadily moved forward this season and is a surprisingly good play maker. Bellingham the same has gradually made his way to almost a box to box role. I like the sound and look of Onyango but he has to learn alot before he is ready.

Take our midfield for example Davies has the athleiscm to play in a midfield two however his positioning and technical ability underpressure is rubbish. Sigz, Sneids both are two slow and leave massive gaps behind. Gomes is good enough under pressure and has good technique but needs a partner that can compensate for his lack of mobility once the ball is behind him.

A midfield two requires good synergy and atleast one of tge wide players comfortable dropping jn to create a three. Onyago probably has the athletic ability that is required however id temper expectations it's a big step to the intensity of the league

The fact that Onyango is likely to end up at about 6foot 4 ins have always made the lazy Fellaini /Viera comparisons inevitable, I’ve lost count of the number used already. At this age Fellaini was banging in goals for fun and Viera was one of the classiest midfielders ever in the PL , some comparison to make.
Onyango is exciting , he can defend when necessary , get up into attack , uses his long legs well, even scores goals though doesn’t look like he’s a natural goalscorer yet. After barely 6 months of full time training he’s done well, but there’s so much still to develop , particularly his long range passing and his game management . At the moment he’s been content to sit in , let the older ones dictate the play and we don’t know if he has a “ football brain” to go with his undoubted talent. That’s no surprise given his age, but as a comparison at a similar age Billy Gilmour looked the smallest guy on the pitch but was bossing bigger and older players , dictating the play, while playing up an age group for Scotland. A full season at U23s next season will see him progress even more.

...yep, I suppose all we can say at this stage is that he’ll certainly have the physical capability to play at the top level. I’m encouraged to read that he’s fast, which could set him apart from the Fellaini comparisons, although I think it’s helpful to discuss what ‘type’ of player he is. I’d be interested to know if he’s ‘quick off the mark fast’, or fast when he gets into stride.

Tait says he needs to work on his passing range, so I’m sure he’ll be doing plenty of ball work. As you indicate, we don’t know much about his football ‘attitude’, he seems a quiet lad who is willing to work hard and listen to his coaches. He might not be vociferous on the pitch but he might be effective.

i didn’t know he’s from Luton.

When you compare the size and athleticism of Camavinga, Bellingham and Onyango to what we have now:

Schneiderlin
Gomes
Delph
Sigurdsson
Davies

I dont think theres a comparison.

Gbamin looks quite similar to those 3 and i think playing in a 2 you really need to have top level athletic ability and be strong positionally. These days players are quick and with 2 in the middle they need to be able to move.

There you go Zat, treat yourself today:

Nice one ;)

Nice finishes from Simms + Astley looked calm...Onyango up and down with a couple of bursts, John the standout for me.

Gilmour is 2 years older though + Fellaini didnt debut till 18 and hit 9 in 60+ games for Liege...unless you mean when they were 16/17 ?

It will be interesting to see who Ancelotti signs to play CM in a 2 so we can see if they seem similar to the younger players coming through in size/style.

My point being CM is a hard position esp if you play a midfield two need to cover what thee players usually do. Gomes could player as a sitter or more Adv B2B but needs the right partner to do it. Don't mind 4-4-2 but we need to be able to shift to a midfield three against better teams either from a wider player or a standard three man midfield

Joey Barton threw him straight in at Fleetwood. He started 9 games for them and they were unbeaten.

They sit in 5th place now in League One and I imagine Gibson was a major factor in that (lots of praise from Barton as well).

I wonder if we may send him back there for the season with a january break option to bring him back or loan him elsewhere.

Brands may also see fit to send others to fleetwood.

He's done a really good job with Fleetwood has Barton. They were really unlucky the season ended as they looked likely to be promoted.

Standard Liege Academy . My point was he was a different type of player than Onyango at a similar age.

Yep , the clue is when I wrote “ At this age/ at a similar age” for them both.
