Everton Youth Teams Thread

Adeniran write up, apparently hes been on the right of midfield?

Could he force his way into the first team in the centre or the right...21 years old now.

...often a club will try a player in other positions if they fail to realise the role they were targeted at. It’s a good idea and many a top full-back has come via that route.

i don’t know if that is the case with Adeniran but we paid decent money for him so they might be looking at options before deciding his future.

What do you make of him? 21 last Jan and training with the first team so perhaps should be pushing for a bench spot next season?

Or do you think there are better prospects (onyango?) Coming through who we will create pathways for over him?

Promising player who apparently left because wasn't happy with pathway

A strange one. We got him from PSG , he then appeared in the England set up for a few years, at times in the same squad as our players , then stopped and went back to France. I dont know him or his family circumstances but being hoiked between different countries doesn’t seem ideal for a kid.

Continuing the theme of youngsters who’ve left, I saw the other day that Miko Virtanen ,who we brought over from Finland ,is back at Aberdeen after a loan spell at Arbroath in the Scottish Championship. He was highly touted when he arrived, but never made any kind of impact at u18s, starting 2 games towards the end of the season 4 years ago plus a few sub appearances. He’s 21 now and seems to be progressing once he was getting regular football, albeit at a lower level.

Cho is much younger. He was well talked about, him, Kouyate and Small were the 3 who were mentioned from that team (as well as a midfielder, Butterfield or something like that).

It's hard for the club, as they have Kouyate who's a similar player and a year above they have Dobbin. They can't give pathways to everyone. In fairness to Cho he's made a great move for himself and will get exposure at a good level from a young age. We just have to hope the ceiling for Dobbin/Kouyate may be higher in the long run and trust the coaches.

It's good we are identifying and develops players at youth level.

His age must be a factor though. You hope for his sake, he fills out a bit over the next 2-3 months. Logically you would say he should go out on loan to a championship team, and go and get 25+ games experience, though I do wonder if a Bundesliga lower level, or even French league loan may suit him?

The unconventional position for him may be though (if I were him) thinking the market may take time to get to the boil this summer. There's a window of opportunity to push myself to the front of the cue, either in central midfield, or on the right (either fullback or right hand side) and I'm going to make that position my own.

As for better prospects, I think Onyango is a better prospect than him but is 5 years younger.

Fills out? Adeniran's physique is his major plus.

This references the echo piece above and says Denny, Baningime, Markelo seem set to leave and Adeniran they dont know...

Wouldn't shock me. The way I see it now with the club hoping to push for the CL if you're 21 and still not getting first team minutes then it's not that you're not good enough it's that you're maybe not good enough for us.

In my eyes we should have a single player in our U23's that is 21 - they should either already be the first team squad, out on a successful high-level loan or sold.

...I’ve been a bit disappointed in Adeniran. I liked what I saw of his time at Fulham and expected him to progress at speed given his physicality. I dare say it took him time to settle but he’s inconsistent within games, drifting in and out.

He scored a few goals of late from the right so he may have new lease of life. He’s never been sent on loan so perhaps he’s rated but I expect the likes of Onyango has already leapfrogged him in the pecking order. I might be wrong.

In all honesty they are not going to play in our first team, and should go.
It’s hard to disagree with that. I do see a big difference though between them , Denny sadly hasn't shown anything, Beni has shown good patches and we really should have let him go on loan this season, instead we seemed to see him as the experienced head you sometimes need to guide the young u23s, plus being squad/bench material if injuries hit. Loan him out next season and see what happens.
We’re changing significantly the age of our Academy/U23s teams and next season, when it comes, we‘ll be even younger so time to move out even more of the older players who are unlikely to make it with us.

Yes. Beni showed some promise 3 years ago, but for whatever reason he just hasn't kicked on. I think we have to start being a bit more ruthless about decisions in the under 23's.
