I was hoping we'd see them training with the 1sts for these last couple of weeks but suppose they might be on a break.
Hopefully get them involved in a brief pre-season at some point.

My understanding was that as they have no games the u18/23 haven’t been training. I think we had to limit U23 numbers training with the 1st team. Although Dobbin and Onyango have been the ones catching the eye along with Cannon , there’s a few in both u18 years who’ve been hit by injuries like Carrol, Hunt, Lewis Warrington, Kristensen who’ve we’re yet to see the best of . Plus the exciting prospects about to join us as Scholars. And we seem to have a batch of decent centre backs below Branthwaite and Astley . Exciting times ahead ......what can possibly go wrong!

Have you heard anything about Rafael Garcia? he joined the under 18's last summer, I think he got injured in preseason? Haven't heard much since about him.

Only as you say that he got injured and wasn’t appearing of late. He was one of those that got a pro contract once he’d turned 17, presumably that was part of the agreement when we signed him.

It's a relief he's signed a contract. There's always that doubt until he puts pen to paper, and sides were sniffing around him. Onyango and Dobbin are very well thought of.

Oh really. That’s good to hear In a way he was tracked by other clubs but signed with us. Clear pathway into the first team. He’s certainly a tall lad for his age. Hopefully he bulks out in years to come.

Remember when Moysey used to have the first team and the ressies training at the same time. Is it a surprise we’ve stopped promoting as many since we stopped this way of doing things?

in fairness just in lockdown alone we’ve seen Carlo use Gordon, Branthwaite and have Simms on the bench.

Holgate DCL and Davies are also examples recently, managers didn’t have to use any of them as the first two weren’t bought for the first team particularly.

I didn't know he'd signed a pro deal, would of been at for least 2 years so he's still with the club then, hopefully see him make some progress this year.

Yep it was about 2 1/2 years at the time, so another two years to go. Last I’d heard , before lockdown, he was in the gym doing rehab work and not far off a comeback.

How many came through youth set up to play regularly for moyes? Hardly any, he'd rather play someone like Hibbert at centre back than give youngster a chance.
Only ones I can think of are Rooney, anichebe, osman and Vaughan.

I'd sell any player over 20 who's still playing U23's. Rotating players between the first team and U23's for depth and fitness is one thing, but anyone 21 or over who spends any entire season on the U23s needs to move down a L1 or L2 side and get professional minutes. Nothing to be gained by playing past 20 in that league.

I’d just put the players, coaches and support staff on a bus, then drive said bus off a cliff. The scrap value of the mangled bus would far outweigh any value of our current youth setup.

He has a lot of the attributes that we are desperately lacking in the first team. Shame he isn't a year or two older.

Hopefully Dobbin will also be used quite a bit with the u23s this year.

Never seen him play but going off that picture he definitely needs a year or two to fill out before looking at any first team involvement. Still, playing PL2 games at 17 shows he is clearly ahead of schedule.

I'd settle for a guaranteed Rooney every ten years. Especially if we could actually keep hold of the Rooney till the next one came along.

How many come through any youth setup to play for their team over a 10 year period for a club? I think that’s a decent return.

Rodwell btw. Hibbert wasnt exactly established when he took over in 2002 either (though he didn’t give him his debut granted).

Pretty sure he gave Ross his debut too
