Simms joined us at 16 from City , and it was seen as a bit of a coup for us at the time . First glimpses were in pre season games abroad , CEE cup or some thing, where he looked promising and as likely to burst the net as stumble over the ball. He didn’t seem to get many games in his first year but took off as a 2nd year. I couldn’t imagine the 16 yer old Simms fitting easy into City’s style , no criticism intended, and I’ve said this before the coaches at U18 and last season at U23s have done a tremendous job on his development. Hes still got the pace and power he had at 16 , but now he’s got hold up play , can play with his back to goal , brings others into the game etc , with the caveat that that‘s at U23s level. Still a lot of developing needed , and training with the 1st team will help , maybe a loan in January.

Maybe with all the international call ups we can only get enough players for either 1st team or u23. I imagine the likes of Connolly et al will be needed to fill places on the bench.

I would assume that Harry Tyrer would be the starting goalkeeper with Nico Hansen as back up, great opportunity for them both. Maybe a starting spot for Simms too. It’ll be interesting to see if any of the younger U23s other than those who’ve been training with the 1st team step up. I’m not sure how the use of different “player bubbles” will affect this though.
