Everton Youth Teams Thread

The OS confirms that Jak Stewart and Thierry Small are in the England u17 squad v Scotland u17 Saturday morning, although it doesn’t say u17, that’s the fixture scheduled then .
The England u19 v Scotland u19 was abandoned at half time when a staff member‘s Covid result came back positive so who knows how far that extends. No Everton players were involved in the u19 match.

Further to our earlier statement regarding the International Friendly Match between Scotland and England under-19s, the Scottish FA can clarify the situation that led to the abandonment of the game.

The under-19s squad and backroom team all delivered negative COVID-19 tests on Sunday to enable them to play in today’s match against England.

Three players based in England joined-up with the squad yesterday – and they and the rest of the squad were tested again with a view to Sunday’s second match.

The three players had been in isolation and had no contact with anyone else. None the less, despite testing negative during Sunday’s test, the head coach, Billy Stark, returned a positive test for COVID-19 this afternoon.

The result of the second test was immediately relayed to the under-19 team manager and the game was abandoned immediately, in line with established COVID-19 protocol.

Billy will now travel home in isolation and will self-isolate for 10 days. The playing group and the rest of the backroom team will undertake precautionary self-isolation for 14 days, whilst the Scottish Government undertakes a formal risk assessment to assess who Stark was in close contact with during the camp.

Scotland Under-19s game against England on Sunday has now been postponed along with the scheduled Under-17s match at St. George’s Park on Saturday.

We apologise to The FA for any inconvenience caused and reiterate our commitment to the health and safety of all our international players and staff.

How many of our current 1st and 2nd year scholars have got full contracts? I've lost track.
Yep I’ve lost track too, this may not be 100% accurate but this is what I think.
8 out of 14 2nd years have contracts. It’s probably easier to highlight those who don’t yet have them .first . Tom Cannon , Liam Higgins , Dylan Thompson don’t have but I’d expect them to based on their performances at u18 and the first two have a little bit of U23s exposure. That leaves Daniel Lowey, Jack McIntyre (GK) and Joel Davidson who missed last season through injury left.
Dobbin, Onyango, Leban, Kristensen, McAllister, Hagan, Garcia, Warrington all have contracts.

Of the ten first years , 5 have contracts already, Luke Butterfield , Reece Welch, Isaac Price, Charlie Whitaker,Kati Kouyate. These of course have all now turned 17, others won’t get contracts until at least 17 e.g. likely Thierry Small.

Going back a few years we didn’t give out the pro contracts so early , often waiting to announce them in bulk in June/July so there seems a change in policy , particularly with the 1st years when they turn 17, which makes sense if you have talented youngsters. It is hard to compare with the past though. I’m surprised Tom Cannon hasn’t got his contract yet but from memory Simms was 18 when he got one, certainly late in his 2nd year.
Please correct this if anybody spots mistakes.

Yeah that was pretty much what I came up with. I just wasn't sure if I'd missd anyone. Given weve spent over £700 million in last 10 years on players it would be nice if we could at least start making money out of our youngsters even if they aren't good enough for us.

I was thinking the other day that our “ new found higher profile”, particularly if we start finishing top 6 , will likely help us generate higher prices when we come to sell . You can imagine the conversation last season “ We want to buy Kieran Dowell , let’s face it your midfield is crap and he can’t get in it, let’s start our offer with...... “

So true this, and it gets overlooked all the time, especially when people talk about how much Liverpool get etc. It's a lot easier - for the club and the agent - to drive up a price when you're saying 'he's a real talent, but obviously it's not easy to get in a league winning side ahead of Salah and Mane...' than it is to convince a team they should be paying a fortune for someone who can't get on the bench ahead of Davies or Schneiderlin.

Guardian have done their next generation 2020. Reece Welch gets the nomination for us

This was posted here early last week, MightyMoyes I think, hence little comment now plus Welch got swamped by the Thierry Small videos.
At 6foot4 , a lot of games for England u16 and 17 , steady run of games at u18 as a schoolboy last season, I think he’s an ever present this season , Welch is ticking all the boxes as a tremendous prospect. You’d expect him to break into the U23s after Christmas but may depend on what’s happening around Ouzonidis, Astley and Branthwaite who will all fighting for game time too.

Our new Swedish lad gets a mention here: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...0-of-the-best-young-talents-in-world-football

Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic plays for Milan and co-owns Hammarby, so it was no surprise when Milan managed to sign Hammarby’s great attacking talent, Emil Roback, this summer, despite competition from Arsenal and Bayern Munich. The Italian club paid €1.5m for the 17-year-old, who is part of a talented generation with the Gothenburg defender Jesper Tolinsson and Imam Jagne, who moved from Hacken to Everton in September. Roback made his debut for Hammarby this spring in a cup quarter-final and made an immediate impact at Milanello, training with the senior squad and setting up a goal in his first friendly. Unfortunately he hurt his arm in his first game for Milan’s primavera team, but it seems to be just a small bump in a career path that points in one direction: upwards. Olof Lundh

Yes, that's up to date for the moment.
The year 2 scholars came through pretty much on the usual timescales, but the year 1s were brought through earlier for both their scholarships and pros. I think it had to do with when the academy had restrictions applied. I don't know the legals around it.

Anthony Gordon started for England U20s in their 2-0 win over what is being shown by Wales as “ Wales u19s” .
Ryan Astley started at 5 for Wales and I thinking played the whole match. Rhys Hughes came on in the 70 th minute. In the team photo Astley looks a good size compared to the others standing next to him, perhaps something I worry about unduly with Astley! He was in the Wales u21 squad last Friday but didn’t feature in their 5-0 drubbing by Belgium , so you’d think he’d be stepping up to u21 for Wales soon.

There is no u18s game tomorrow - Everton u18s were due to play Leeds but that was moved to Tuesday 3rd november with 3pm ko, which means Everton u18s next game is home v Liverpool u18s next week 11am ko after what will be a 3 week break and so far oddly that is not on LFCTV who will hopefully show it as they usually do, While Monday Everton u23s are in action home to leaders Spurs 7pm ko and again that is so far not on TV, Spurs as far as i can think never show there games Live so we need Everton to show it lol
