How do you see the Branda situation fitting in?
....if the DoF leads the overall club strategy, i wonder if progress is on hold if there are no plans to renew Brands contract this summer.

Tough draw but again a few loca lads playing for Wigan who are obviously top quality...the boy McHugh Wonder goal the other night v Tranmere and obviously a brilliant talent, then the Goalkeeper Owen Mooney who's always been one of the best in the country yet they play for Wigan. We should be bringing in the very best local lads, yes we had a ban but go and get them when its up. I still fancy the lads getting through but we have to get the best local talent and there is 2 straight away we should get. Tough game definitely from the games we have played against them.That’s going to be Wigan eventually and it’s a really tough draw.
They’re a very good side at this level.
Who is the man they brought in from Derby County early this year to have some input in Acadamy affairs, he did a good job at Derby, not sure if it was in recruiting young players.....interesting if the changes to the Academy (Unsworth, Ebbrell) and the Brands contract situation is part of a long-term strategy.

Thanks for your reply, blueloon, I’ll have to remember that name, he came with a good reputation for finding talent so hopefully he will do a similar good job here, I think Martin Waldron did a very good job while was with Everton and it would be interesting to see how many young players Martin brought to Finch Farm and made it through the system, also how many current young players brought to Everton by Martin are doing now at their levels.That is Chris Perkins who has the title Head of Academy Recruitment. Initially it was said he was reporting to head of recruitment Gretar Steinsson, but things have been very quiet about him . Since then Unsworth has been promoted to include Director of Academy in his remit and Ebbrell is now Head of Academy coaching , so it’s not clear to me who Perkins reports to .
That interview is literally insane. The fact they are talking about bringing in an integrated talent id/development system in 2020 shows how far behind we are.
Good question. With regards to Talent Development, the pathway should be more about developing ‘generalists’ who can do the specifics well. So using the example in the article, the pathway should be developing quick players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet and playing a passing game. That should then align with the coaching staff you look to bring in at a first team level and they can tweak as needed. That’s almost the perfect model.Devils advocate here, but how do you get an integrated system when you have 5 permanent managers, with different ideas, in about 5 years?
Good question. With regards to Talent Development, the pathway should be more about developing ‘generalists’ who can do the specifics well. The problem is that it seems there hasn’t been a coherent strategy on what an ‘Everton’ player looks like coming through the ranks, nor does it seem particularly aligned to the future needs of the senior squad.
It is simple it just takes time.There's a lot of sense in this. I see this "model on the first team" stuff being thrown around, a bit like how loans are automatically good for players became accepted gospel. It sounds good, and where it works it works well, but it's mot always so simple.
I happen to agree with you. I think we really need to discard what happens at first team level, which will be changeable and try to create players that play with speed, and comfort on the ball.
We also have to acknowledge where we are in the pyramid. We sell top players to the top 10 teams in Europe. So we need to be modelling our approach to creating players who are able to attract the attention of the top teams. This is really what clubs like RB do. They buy/develop players who have a size and speed that amke them top players, even if a bit error prone.
Yeah there’s a whole argument against creating truly specialised players, so for example developing an u15 to the exact specifications of a senior team centre back. Changes in the game are inevitable, so a player developed to meet the challenge of long throws that were in vogue a few years ago would essentially be useless in today’s game. Plus teams risk becoming very one dimensional. Whilst there’s a general idea of how the game is progressing (more passes, more movement etc.) it’s an in exact science.There's a lot of sense in this.
