I see it as more of like a post academy graduation thing the U23s. Where players end up before they’re loaned out or moved on.
Proper youth development for me is about developing players from junior level right through, both DCL & Holgate had already progressed beyond that level when we signed them, they definitely weren’t graduates of our academy.

Yeah I agree , “ Academy” is usually regarded as u18s and below. Interestingly this season our U23s teams have often been composed completely of Academy graduates I.e. none bought in over 16. Most of the teams we’ve played against , RS, City, etc have a fair proportion of bought in U23s . I think there’s a balance of having a good Academy system bringing them through and supplemented by purchases of good youngsters from elsewhere at U23s.

I said similar after the derby thread. Most of their team had been bought in post 18 whereas most of ours had been with us pre 16.
The poster is probably right that we shouldn't count DCL/Holgate/Stones etc as part of it, but there is a double standard when it comes to other teams, where other players signed in that manner will be counted in such a manner. I don't think it's people being unfair either but we just don't pay as much attention to other teams and just assume they have come through their teams.

Interesting to see what happens with Broadhead, Baningime and Bowler today. I would like to think we might get some interest although I think Bowler might still be struggling with injury. If these 3 are out the picture we will have a really young u23 squad. Bowler and Broadhead will both be gone at the end of the season whatever happens.

yeh bowler wont be going anywhere due to injury. honestly i am actually surprised broadhead has never been asked to train with the 1sts recently when options are so limited but can see interest in him from the c'ship
