Everton Youth Teams Thread

He's been training with the first team lots this season. I'm pretty sure he's injured at the minute too.
I'm only saying what I'm being told by a journalist with the exclusive that he doesn't think it's been enough.

He's definitely not injured though as he's just gone away with England

Could see this coming a mile away when Digne signed a new contract. Small looks like a serious talent but he can see no pathway into first team with Nkounkou.

He probably has been tapped up and can see big money signs. It's a shame but totally understandable.

The article actually says the opposite that he's not interested in Arsenal and United though. Its Leeds, Brighton and Brentford in the running and you'd like to think we could blow them out the water on wages.

Cant understand why you wouldn't have him train with the first team either. Seems like we've sort of just gave him 1 min of football and then just assumed he'd sign. We've also had games where we've not filled the bench or had 2 goalies on it. If I was a 16 year old getting told I was the best thing since sliced bread I'd be pissed off seeing that myself
Yes I understand his stance in a way, but it looks like the lad can also play wide so maybe he could have a bit of patience and his chances of playing increase because he can play in more than one position, I rate his chances of making the first team, in the future, very high. Maybe he wants bigger wages, that a transfer would more than likely bring, now. His career might be better served by being patient and staying with the Blues or maybe it’s his agent who is in a rush.

Can't blame the lad for maybe looking elsewhere if he thinks behind Digne & Nkounkou he'll be waiting ages for a proper go. However, this is his first year for the U23's so maybe just needs to remember he's got a long career ahead of him.

By the time he is 19 or so Digne will be 30. He'd be possibly fighting it out with Nkounkou by then.

In 2 years time Digne will be 30 and Small will still only be 18. Obviously there are personal considerations but from a professional viewpoint it's not really understandable at all.

We need more academy players to make it, losing Small would be a blow. Even worse if it’s for peanuts when he’d probably make a big money move one day and make the selling club a lot of money

Aye he was injured in the Youth Cup game against Wigan a couple of weeks back, but he played 2nd half for England U17s v Watford u23s the other day, coming on for the starting left back.

At least Bayern, Juventus etc cant get him apparently, from the article “

“However, Bayern's attempts to lure Small to Germany have been since been scuppered by new Brexit regulations that now prohibit the transfers of 16-18-year-olds into Europe.”

Surely Small has got realise he is only 16 and will struggle for game time anywhere in 4 years he'll be 20 perfect time to take over from Digne. I'm sure if he keeps developing he will start making the squad on a regular basis next year. Particularly if we have European football where 12 players are allowed on the bench. Also 4 of your 25 man named squad has to be club trained and only Tom Davies meets this criteria. Branthwaite and Nkounkou would need to be named in the 21 none club trained players as they haven't been here 2 years so don't qualify as b list players. I can see Nkounkou not being named for that reason so it will certainly open up opportunities. It may just be people stirring as they know we can't tie him down until his 17th birthday in August. If he chooses to go there is nothing we can do and it would be a shame but there is no guarantee yet that he is even going to make it.
