Everton Youth Teams Thread

Everton u23s end 1-1 with Brighton u23s and stay 8th, a point behind their local Neighbours Liverpool in 7th,or 1 point off 6th placed man utd with 2 games left
---------
Everton u23s next game comes away to southampton a week tomorrow [2nd may] 2pm kick off before they then play each other again 5 days later on the Friday [7th May] in the final game

Good performances today from the regulars Tyrer, Bowler, Broadhead, John , Ouzounidis, Anderson . A very impressive performance from Jenson Metcalfe in the 6 position. Tall , thin , will fill out and gain strength but three or four really good long passes from the back to the forwards , great distribution from him. One to watch next season. Similarly Roman Quintyne coming on as sub at right back had an impressive debut . Not as well built as Small , no fancy tricks, just simple defending and a desire to use his pace to surge forward . We’ve certainly got next years u18 right back , it would be silly to predict too much at this stage but he looked as good as Small did this time last year.
Rafael Garcia was disappointing, it’s a tough gig playing that role at U23s level for the first time . He always looks busy , niggles defenders but his end product is below standard so far , too many runs into dead ends. Shame about Dobbin’s injury , we shouldn’t be pushing him back too early.

If Kyle John does a good job definitely needs an extension and hopefully loan to iron out his weaknesses. He does well and he could take Colemans place in first team squad Summer 22.
I believe we’ve offered John an extension , along with Astley, waiting to see if both of them sign I think. John was good today, moved into midfield and didn’t look out of place, definitely deserves his extension.

MATCH REPORT VIA BRIGHTON

Albion finished off their Premier League 2 campaign with a 1-1 draw at Everton this afternoon.

The visitors took the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time, before Ulrick Ella’s superb strike just after the restart ensured both sides took a point home with them.

Andrew Crofts and Shannon Ruth were aiming for their team to finish the season with a third consecutive victory, making one change from the 3-1 win over Derby County as Ella came in for Evan Ferguson.

Excellent runs down the flanks from Ayo Tanimowo and James Furlong proved to be Albion’s outlets in the first half, but a number of decent balls into the box from the pair couldn’t find a teammate to convert.

The hosts went close through Josh Bowler midway through the first half as the Everton midfielder fired an effort just over from 20-yards, before the 22-year-old played a pivotal role in his side taking the lead in the 44th minute.

The former QPR man drew a foul from Ed Turns inside the box and the referee was left with little choice but to point to the spot.

Toffees skipper Nathan Broadhead made no mistake as he found the top left corner from 12-yards, with Rushworth unable to get a touch on it despite diving the right way.

Albion responded quickly though and had their equaliser seven minutes after the restart.

Ella found a yard of space in the box and rifled into the top left corner with a fine strike across goal.

Danny Cashman went close to adding a fourth goal in three games as he controlled Mark Leonard’s low drive from the edge of the 18-yard area, he chopped past a defender before trying to slot past Harry Tyrer, but his effort was straight and at the Everton stopper and Teddy Jenks couldn’t convert the tricky follow up from an acute angle.

Ed Turns' header from Jenks' corner was on target buy an easy one for Tyrer to gather, before Broadhead's free-kick from 25-yards out was well over Rushworth’s goal.

Leonard had the chance to win it with two minutes to go as he was found by Jenks in the middle, but he fired his first-time effort was straight at Tyrer.

The result sees Albion finish their season in ninth spot, but that could change with every team in the division still with at least one game to play.

I believe we’ve offered John an extension , along with Astley, waiting to see if both of them sign I think. John was good today, moved into midfield and didn’t look out of place, definitely deserves his extension.

I hope they both sign. They need loan moves with a 6 month break in case they aren't working out. I would keep Anderson as well because he's versatile and its good to have one experienced defender in there. It's looking promising they just need to be managed right and we might get a couple for the squad and maybe start making money on a few.

Anybody know what happened to that Caicedo lad they bought in January. He hasn't played in the first team yet so I expected to see him featuring with their u23s today.

Next season I would like the u23s to line up a bit like this

Tyrer
Mallon Welch Anderson Small
Onyango Price Iversen
Garcia Cannon Dobbin

Leban Kristiensen Warrington McAllister Kouyate

Obviously Onyango and Iversen injured so that might give opportunities to Warrington and McAllister and its up to them to take them. Astley, John and Hughes would be sent out on loan. Butterfield and Whitaker I would have training with u23s but still playing in the u18s as I think not playing is likely to hinder their progress. Hunt and Quirk would be kept as they have a year left but I would say they have fallen down the order and Hagan would be also in the squad but I think he is also struggling with all the competition at CB.

U18s would look a bit like this

Stewart
Quintyne Tierney Campbell ?????
Butterfield Jagne Metcalfe
Mills Heath Whitaker

Not sure who is coming through at LB hence ????? the rest is based on whose played this season. Hopefully opportunities for some of them to play at u23s will arise but the key thing is lining up in a similar manner so step from one team to the other is seemless. As I said above Butterfield and Whitaker probably already good enough just there is lots of competition in them positions.
