Everton Youth Teams Thread

Only if we have an injury crisis.
Sometimes the answer to these questions is “ There you go mate, here’s a link to Friday nights u23s game with Derby, make up your own mind.” There was a lot of reality present in that match regarding the ability of our youngsters to operate at PL level yet. Dobbin played well, but for all his talent and potential he’s still a work in progress

Yeh I mean I don't see any of our U23's ready to play mins in the PL personally but I've always sat on the harsher side.

Yeah I agree with you, you are harsh :) , but also agree none are ready for the PL yet.. I tend to just enjoy watching them without having huge expectations now, and my comparison basis to reality is “ the Golden Generation” and others and where they ended up. Is Lewis Warrington as good as Liam Walsh was? ( not as good for me) , how does Welch compare with Morgan Feeney at the same age ( better and more physically developed than Feeney) . Not a good comparison but Whitaker doesn’t have the same wand of a left foot that Dowell has but he scores more goals and works twice as hard.

I just treat them as two separate clubs in a way. As much as I’d love some to make the grade we have to be realistic that the stronger the first team becomes, the large the step up becomes. If we were a Championship side more of these lads would make their Everton debuts.

You seem to follow the academy fairly closely. So hypothetically what would the club need to do to say emulate the Chelsea or City academies? I assume that at one point they weren't any great shakes either but success with the first team has seen the clubs rise.

Is it that simple that it's just a knock on effect from the first team being successful and therefore our stock being higher? How did those academies get to where they are now?

Start spending big (ish) money on the best u13s,14s & 15s players around. Provide better facilities, improve the scouting & massively increase the budget, including money paid out in expenses (cough).

I’d also be very aggressive at taking the best players from cat 2 clubs which isn’t really that expensive but comes with a potentially very high ceiling.

So rather than splashing millions on Bolasie types we should invest in a long term strategy of building the academy. It is something that seems so simple yet so few do it. All about instant gratification these days. I also don't think U23's prepares them in any shape or form for the Premier League.

He’s deffo got 3 in 5 , he was out around the first teams last league game (I think ) with a knee injury. He’s deffo been injured recently , the date escapes me to be fair and in my defence and as I’ve stated before my memory is horrific . I suspect I’m including him scoring & missing In behind closed doors stuff .

As for him being rated I know definitely is and particularly in the air , As I said earlier in the thread he’s also a massive blue from a huge family of blues .
100% that was his first goal this season also has played the last 3 games as bluemoon said

Yeah he’s played other non-league games I think behind closed doors when he’s scored and he was 100% injured I definitely know that . Think he got a couple pre season as well but I could be wrong. Think the last league game was a couple of weeks ago wasn’t it ?

We need to recruit very aggressively at very young ages. We tried to this and got ourselves an academy ban.

Do you think Everton currently have the fanbase to look long term? Because from what I can tell everyone wants everything now.

I would say forget about emulating Chelsea and City, although they are obviously the best , as a start we should be competing with the likes of Villa and Leeds who both have a philosophy within their clubs that has enabled them to attract and buy in talented u18s. Both Villa and Leeds have owners who while ambitious PL wise have ensured that their Academies have also been revamped and had money spent on them . Our owner has spent heavily on older players, and as far as I’m aware has no real interest in the Academy . As a result if the Academy is not successful and youngsters are not playing in the first team we blame the usual suspects, Unsworth , Brands and whomever our current manager is.
