As I understand it brands is involved on a personal level but I agree investment is the key. unsworth gets a fair amount of blame but I think prior to brands arrival certainly some of it was justified .I would say forget about emulating Chelsea and City, although they are obviously the best , as a start we should be competing with the likes of Villa and Leeds who both have a philosophy within their clubs that has enabled them to attract and buy in talented u18s. Both Villa and Leeds have owners who while ambitious PL wise have ensured that their Academies have also been revamped and had money spent on them . Our owner has spent heavily on older players, and as far as I’m aware has no real interest in the Academy . As a result if the Academy is not successful and youngsters are not playing in the first team we blame the usual suspects, Unsworth , Brands and whomever our current manager is.
Exactly this, a few other clubs are doing it now as well.I would say forget about emulating Chelsea and City, although they are obviously the best , as a start we should be competing with the likes of Villa and Leeds who both have a philosophy within their clubs that has enabled them to attract and buy in talented u18s. I would love to know the budget that Chelsea and Man city are spending on bringing in young players from across Europe and South America as well as this country ,we have been trying like the young Dutch lad that couldn't get a work permit for, other clubs never seem to struggle getting work permitsYou seem to follow the academy fairly closely. So hypothetically what would the club need to do to say emulate the Chelsea or City academies? I assume that at one point they weren't any great shakes either but success with the first team has seen the clubs rise.
Is it that simple that it's just a knock on effect from the first team being successful and therefore our stock being higher? How did those academies get to where they are now?
Where do we stand regarding against other clubs.
Chelsea academy is unreal. A few of their players are on loan in the premiership. So jealous of their quality
We have in the first team.
DLC
Rodwell
Davies
So are we doing just OK, are the top kids going to the top 6 now.
Where all the top scousers these days
Rooney
Fowler
Owen
Gerrard
Macca
The scouse lads are drying up so this is weird.
I want our club to be buying top kids every summer or is this a coaching issue? Did the transfer ban effect us and we are now lagging behind.
We have no exciting kids with huge potential coming through thr ranks.
Transfer ban must have set us back and the seemingly endless changes higher up in the academy where there here one minute and gone the nextWhere do we stand regarding against other clubs.

I know there U23’s had six 17 year olds start the other day and Callum Doyle who is 17 playing for Sunderland on loanEarly days obviously but city don't seem as strong at u18 level this season
Apparently no one really standout especially up front and weaker than the last couple of seasonsEarly days obviously but city don't seem as strong at u18 level this season

He’s looked good both the games I’ve watched him there , looked ok when he came through for us but even when ge went on loan just Didn’t get the game time . The importance of finding the right clubs for players to go out to is really illustrated by his performances since moving north of the border , if he was on loan now he’d be a completely different prospect than only a few weeks ago . The whole game is such small margins .Beni Baningime looked the bee's knees in the Edinburgh derby.
Early days for him, but if he carrys on, he wont be at hearts long
Yeah I watched him today and in his first game, hes looking good. I can’t help but think that managers are less trusting of loanees , why should they play and develop someone else’s product . But when they buy them , they own them and it’s their mistake if it goes wrong so they’ve now got the ole “ skin in the game” to want them to succeed more. I’m not saying they won’t play players who will win them games , just maybe a bit more reluctance to play someone else’s youngsters. Good examples are Josh Bowler, now playing regularly and scoring for Blackpool in the Championship, whereas Broadhead, who’s at a similar level, can’t get into League 1 Sunderland‘s team. Plus there may be the players mentality, this is a real contract , cock it up and I’m out , no cushy loan deal as a safety net. He’s looked good both the games I’ve watched him there , looked ok when he came through for us but even when ge went on loan just Didn’t get the game time . I think that’s fair but I do honestly think that ties into getting the correct loan. We’ve seen players from clubs going out and performing well from premier league right down the leagues , it’s about finding the right fit . Look at Brewster from the RS they got him a club that played perfectly to his attributes with Swansea a footballing side , then he ended up moving to the complete antithesis of that on a Permanent and look at his career . However it developed him to the degree he looked pretty much ready for the top flight or pretty close and his fee was maximised .Yeah I watched him today and in his first game, hes looking good.
