Everton Youth Teams Thread

You’d imagine that’s a carrot that’s been dangled to Samuels-Smith . Given he played 22 games last season at u18 , including Youth Cup, I’d expect him to start left back at u21 very quickly , maybe a wee adjustment to full time training, stepping up but not a long one . He was playing CB at u18 towards the end of the season and he’s looked very comfortable as left CB for England u16 but you’re right his quickest path to the first team is as a left back…… and before his 17th birthday.

Be interested to see all the scholars contract details, you'd think Samuels-Smith got something similar to Patterson

…I could see Samuels- Smith being involved with the first team by the end of the season. Delighted he’s staying & not in the least surprised he sees himself as a LB.

Goodness me...you two rate ISS extremely highly.

Would be a huge positive if he could be backup to Mykolenko by the end of the season.

Competition he has is with Nkounkou who looked good in the cup games.

…it’s such a difficult judgement, Zat, the gulf is so massive to PL but he looks a class act this lad & it will be fascinating to watch him next season.

Yeah , rate ISS highly, but to put it into perspective I don’t believe he will be a back up to Mykolenko next season. What I think will happen is that he will touch the edge of the first team squad next season , depending on fixtures , league position , cup matches etc. If he progresses as we hope, we will have to show him a clear pathway , crucially before his 17 th birthday. Otherwise we risk him not signing a pro contract with us.

There are others who understand these contracts better than I do, my understanding is that the 3/4 year contracts are agreed intents. We would be very unlikely to break them and not offer a pro contract at 17 , it may even be .legally binding on us, but it appears that the player doesn’t have to sign that pro contract and can go elsewhere.

Isaac Price looked absolutely class when he came on for a cameo against <team name> late in the season.

I know very little about the guy but have watched a youtube vid and have now convinced myself he's the next De Bruyne and will solve our midfield woes next year.

Can I get an assessment from those in the know?

Is there anyone you think could push onto a regular bench option?

Price doesnt seem far off...Dobbin seemed close as did Welch.

It would save a lot of money if two or three were on the bench rather than players like Tosun and Gomes just picking up wages.

For ISS was his brother in the same team as him last season or different kettle of fish?

…by natural progress, it would seem like failure if Onyango, Dobbin, Price and even Welch don’t see any bench/game time next season. A lot of this could be down to luck, more specifically luck with injury, suspension leaving an opening.

From a left-field perspective, I’d throw RB Stanley Mills in as ‘one to watch’. I’m a sucker for a converted winger & he’s looked a little lost defensively during the transition from front to back, but he just has something about him that gives him a small chance. He’s got good size & athleticism as well as some of his fathers attitude. He’s a handful in the top third.

If we play wing backs, that might suit Mills
