…oooh, very good point.
If you're him, you have to be looking at that spot as a big opportunity.
Maybe Patterson comes and nails that spot down, but he hasnt yet.

I think @Zatara asks this question twice a season ?. The only one I’d add to your list is Charlie Whitaker, someone who’s style I like and I think would have come close last season but for injury . I didn’t see him in the recent training videos so he’s likely dropped down the pecking order , but a good pre season should see him shine again.…by natural progress, it would seem like failure if Onyango, Dobbin, Price and even Welch don’t see any bench/game time next season. A lot of this could be down to luck, more specifically luck with injury, suspension leaving an opening.
From a left-field perspective, I’d throw RB Stanley Mills in as ‘one to watch’. I’m a sucker for a converted winger & he’s looked a little lost defensively during the transition from front to back, but he just has something about him that gives him a small chance. He’s got good size & athleticism as well as some of his fathers attitude. He’s a handful in the top third.

TYRER MAKES LOAN MOVE
Everton goalkeeper Harry Tyrer has completed a loan move to Chester and will spend 2022/23 with the National League North club.
Tyrer joined Everton Academy aged seven and in January signed a new three-and-half year contract to keep him with the Club until the end of June 2025.
The 20-year-old played 18 Premier League 2 games for the Blues’ Under-23s last term and was included in three senior matchday squads.
Tyrer, a boyhood Evertonian born in Crosby, gained First-Team experience in pre-season in 2020, when he recorded a clean sheet in a Goodison Park victory over Preston North End.
Not unexpected, but I thought he might go higher up the leagues . Still , it’ll be seen as “ men’s football” and good for him, and more likely to play regularly at this level.
Pickford started off on loan in non-league, don't think there's any harm in sending young keepers that low
Aye when Pickford was 18/19 , by 20 , Tyrer’s age , he was in the EFL . OK he’ll get game time but this is 6th tier , our u23s used to play friendlies against this level, I ‘m not sure it will challenge him enough - these days goalkeepers are not just shot stoppers, their skills need to include , distribution , playing out using your defenders etc We sent Warrington out two levels above last season, we wouldn’t send a promising outfielder so far down the leagues. Hopefully it works out for Tyrer.Pickford started off on loan in non-league, don't think there's any harm in sending young keepers that low

Well that's a shame. It is what it is. Hopefully an even larger wake up call than small though I said that last yearLawrence's Instagram post doesn't say where he is going View attachment 173102
I like Tyrer, I think he’s been the best young keeper to come through in recent years. I dont see what the coaches see in training and so I fear he’s dropped down the order in their eyes. Crellin came in last season and could be the one to shine in the u21s / training with the 1st team this season, whereas a year on Tyrer will be 21, and trying to convince people that he’s had a good season at a 6th tier club may be difficult. I don’t disagree with a loan, I just think we could have done better for him than a club whose players are part time.Tryer essentially missed a potential year on loan at 18/19 because of Covid.
If it works out, he could easily progress up the leagues on loan fairly quickly.

Cant blame them for looking out for themselves especially with him supporting city but if breaking through is what he wants he would stand a better chance at us than City. City have a stupid amount of talented forwards and that will only continue. I'm hoping we utilise Dobbin a lot more this season with 5 subs and less of an impending doom. If we start to give Dobbin and Price proper minutes that will go a long way to keeping youngsters further down the line.….it’s a sign of the times for all clubs that talented youngsters will look to do what’s best for them. It’s more difficult for a forward like Lawrence to break through.
