Everton Youth Teams Thread

No way has he got that.

To clarify the situation about us poaching him from City.

Players can go to all academies up to the age of 9 and then they have to commit, which Emilio did. He was playing for City, us, United and Liverpool between the ages of 5 & 9 although he got rid of the latter 2 quite quick and concentrated more so on us and City.

He was all set to sign for City but Martin Waldron managed to convince him to sign for us using some of the creative methods that the club used back then which he carried the can for.

He was the one Martin wanted out of all the kids in the north west and it was another signing he got spot on. I’ve seen posts playing down how good he is but he’ll be in the top 2 or 3 players at City as soon as he joins and he’d be the best u17 at United or Liverpool if he went to either of them now.

He’s no way Rooney, that’s just unrealistic but Emilio’s a very good, classy player. I don’t think he was ever going to stay here though. City have done to us what we did to them 8 years ago.

Thankfully we kept ISS as he was holding back signing also.

Who would you consider the better prospect, him or ISS?

He us only echoing what 3 or 4 of the youth team lads were saying to me a few months back.
No sure he was one of them as they were on the way to Manchester
Prior to Lampard, they said the club was a shambles behind the scenes, and the football under Unsworth wasn't enjoyable, to many favourites as well.
I said I had watched them and it looked like they were not expressing themselves much.
All agreed.
On a plus piont they said all said Tait was excellent and according to them was the only one holding it together at the time, behind the scenes.
Hopefully it's been turned around.

So sounds like the comment the City guy made in my post wasnt far from the truth. Another poster there said the reason he joined us was 'incentives' which I assume we got done for, plus he said we had loads of youth tournaments around europe and that was also a factor for him.

He's gone now anyway but lets hope the new regime has started to change things significantly, implement a good football style and make us a more attractive place to come.

This thread is depressing. From reading this, we have lost out best young players.
It's the circle of life. We've lost Small and Lawrence over the last 2 seasons but we bought Okoronkwo and Patterson. And we have managed to tie other players down like ISS, Onyango etc.

I find it hard to complain when losing a player to Man City tbh but the loss of Small to Southampton highlighted a problem and you'd have to say that Thelwell has made a good start on correcting it.

Circle of life indeed. Southampton have just lost Tyler Dibling one of their best 16/year olds to Chelsea.

Thanks very much mate, it's a great thread with lots of good contributors.

With the caveat being its hard to say. I think Dobbin will be one who makes it, and have felt that from when he was quite a young lad.

I like Whittaker, and would think he could be a player whos worth keeping an eye on.

Smith Samuel at left back is also very impressive.
Ppl always want to compare our youth prospects to Rooney or Barkley, which are not fair comparisons. But how would you say their chances compare to someone like Gordon, who has made the breakthrough last season after several years of hype? Seems like they are a bit below him from what I am reading?

There's a short clip in the interview video that confirms that Onyango is training with the 21s so most likely not left behind because a loan deal was imminent as some had speculated.
I disagree mate, it’s not like he wasn’t going to train or be allowed to just chill at home on the couch. There’d be no reason sending a player over to USA if he was going to be loaded out and not a part of the first team.

However, he’s still going to be at the club and keeping fit, hopefully we see him sign a really good loan soon.

I think we're probably just disagreeing on the word imminent. He may well go out on loan this summer but he isn't imminently leaving like Branthwaite who isn't training with the first team or the 21s (most likely he's training with PSV). The key takeaway for me is that Onyango has slipped down the pecking order behind Price and Warrington.

Edit: Of course if Onyango leaves on loan in the next day or so, my opinion will change!

The main bit I took from it was a reflection on some of the progress we’ve made in the past 3 years or so. Back then I was arguing that Gordon , then an u18, wasn’t getting enough game time at u23s. Unsworth’s view was “ it’s a big step up from u18 to u23”, which is true but we just were not managing that step up for our talented u18 players. Now the likes of Luke Butterfield, not our most talented player, played probably twice as many u23 games as an u18 as Gordon did . He’s been given the chance to prove himself. Hearing that we are integrating the u18/u21 in pre season is very welcoming .
