Everton Youth Teams Thread

That video is all uncut, the interview with the Brighton CEO at half time at the 1:24:06 mark is funny, before he does it, the interviewer asks him if he can mention something about cut price travel and the CEO says he can't mention any concrete details in the interview! Ha ha cat out of the bag now!

Praises Everton as well in that interview.

This is a question for Swisso, don't watch the u18s myself, can you see the influence of Martinez in the manner we play, or is that the normal style of play for the u18s.

Pretty much the way theyve always played, the 4-3-3 with the lone forward, 2 high wingers and a holding midfielder has been their bread and butter for the last 4 seasons.
Different players bring different qualities as the turnover of players is only 1-2 years, sometimes we play well, other times the players don't click.

Thanks for that mate always enjoy your posts about the youth set up at Everton. But it does beg the question if the u18/20s have been playing like that for the last 4 yrs or so, then you wonder why the 1st team didn't play the same way. Looking at that game last night you can see the similarities in the style of play with todays 1st team. But if you look at the 1st team today and 4yrs ago there miles apart.

I don't know how true it is but Moyes apparently only went to watch the U18 three times in 11 years.

Martinez sat in the stand with his brew once again yesterday and went into the dressing room to congratulate the lads, which Sheedy described as "a nice touch." That alone suggests that it's something that Moyes seldom did.

It will be great for the kids to know that the manager is interested in them and Sheeds has said that Roberto is happy that the youth team are playing in the same way as the first team. I can't believe that we haven't had that consistency through the age groups up until now.

...its difficult playing in a big stadium when you're a young lad and not used to it, so I wouldn't look too much into this. On the night it wasn't a very impressive performance but the best team won. I was actually impressed by Brighton's keeper which probably reflects who was on top. I'm sure we'll get better.

Watch the goal. Green is standing around and the coaching staff starts screaming "PRESS, PRESS". He runs to the ball and takes it off the kid and scores.

I wouldn't buy into any notion that the youth teams are playing a different style or brand of football since Martinez came in, or that he's overhauled the youth structure in any way.

We've had a mix of players coming and going in the 4 years I've been watching, some will play it cool and on the deck, others will hoof it. It just so happens that we've got a group at the moment of intelligent players, especially at the back where it all starts off.

"The manager came in after the game and he was very complimentary towards the players and the style of football which we played, which is nice because that's the way he wants us to play," Sheedy told evertontv.

"It's the way we've been playing football all season - we pass the ball out from the back.

"It was a nice touch."

I'd imagine that Sheedy hasn't been given direct instructions about how to play either under Moyes or Martinez and that he's pretty much allowed to do as he sees fit. Perhaps Roberto takes a keener interest though and spends time discussing ideas and philosophies with Sheeds?
