Everton Youth Teams Thread

Last edited:

Roberto just radiates positivity, so refreshing, good times for the lads in our youth set up.

Martinez has said that the only way that Everton will be able to compete at the moment is by developing the youth set up and he feels that Everton have one of the best youth set ups in the country alongside Southampton having seen a number of players come through the ranks to hit the first team in recent years.

“It is the only way we can compete against money,” Martinez said. “Developing our own youngsters and getting players a little bit earlier, before they are attracting teams with big budgets.

“It is a way of being creative and not needing the big amounts of money to be able to compete against the top sides.”

“I don’t know enough about the other squads to be honest, but Southampton, I must admit, have got a very good group of youngsters.

“I have been working with (academy manager) Alan Irvine for the past six months and he is doing an incredible job.

“I do feel we are going to get more youngsters through and everything set up at Finch Farm is geared towards that. It would be stupid of me not to open that door and developing a path for our youngsters.

“It is something quite special for a group of players to be playing together and enjoying their football in that manner.”

Just watched the Stubbs interview video on the official site. The Under 21s got beat 0-1 by Aston Villa at Goodison last night.

We tried to get the game re-arranged because we have so many out on loan and had to play 15 and 16 year olds. Villa wouldn't have it, and then said they'd play a similar young team to make it a fair game. Then we turn up for the match, they're playing their regular reserves and grocks against our kids. Bit naughty that, going back on an informal agreement.

...it is naughty, but it might not have been a bad learning opportunity for the youngsters. It sounds like they acquitted themselves well.

Michael Donohue got on. Only 15 I think.

Really think this kid has a chance of making it, he seems to be being fast tracked through the ranks. Plays as a winger/attacker.
