Everton Youth Teams Thread

….that’s a lengthy contract for a young professional and can only mean they like what they see. I thought there were a few signs from his pre-season appearances that suggested he might have something but it’s such a huge step-up for a striker because the skill set is so difficult.

From what I’ve seen, it wouldn’t take much for him to leapfrog Chermiti. I can see one of those two moving on loan next season.
For me Chermiti is far ahead of Okoronkwo, as you’d expect for their respective fees. I see something of the young DCL in Chermiti which I don’t see in Okoronkwo, both are 19 , Chermiti slightly older. Watching them play together in the recent EFL Trophy match confirmed that for me. As you say it’s a huge step up , but so far I’m not seeing significant signs from the likes of Kouyate ( I know he’s been injured) and Okoronkwo to suggest they’re going to be pushing for a first team bench place this season. I’d loan Okoronkwo out in January, keep Chermiti at FF, we‘re one DCL injury away from needing him regularly.

Agreed, he does seem to have something about him and a reasonably long term contract confirms that.
A loan would be the next sensible move.

….not sure. I remember watching DCL in one of his first Everton U21 games and posting on here that he’d make his debut before December. I don’t see anything like that potential with Chermiti. I’m certainly not writing him off, I’d just like to see a few signs that he can play at the top level.

Is a 2.5 year deal considered lengthy for a player we spent a million quid on as a 16 year old?

According to the official website (yes, I know it’s completely unreliable), we don't seem to have many youth players on international duty this break. Zan-Luk Leban for Slovenia U21s and Fraser Barnsley and Sean McAllister for Northern Ireand U21s (at Goodison next Tuesday).

Plus of course, Branthwaite and Chermiti from the 1st team squad. Any more called up not on the list?

…is James Garner too old now? I’d be happy if he’s not involved any more.

Luis Gardner , u16s midfielder , is with the Wales u17 squad . He’s come off the bench for our u18s this season, but don’t know anything more about him.

Yes, we have a couple playing for Wales together with Luis Gardner. Leftback Jayden Lienou, midfielder Marlie Neil and winger Patrick Mlynarski.
I know that those three were with Gardner in the Wales u16 , but it looked like he was the only one who’s moved up to u17 this month. That may be due to date of birth eg Gardner is now 16 , or they’ve moved him up early as highly rated , do you know which ?

You are right, he's the only one who moved up to u17. I'm sorry but I don't know the reason. He was the captain of the u16's so hopefully he's been moved up because he's highly rated.
