Everton Youth Teams Thread

….sounds a bit like Lewis Gibson coming through as LB/CB. It’s a difficult one because they look big in their age group and they’re all still growing, it’s usually easier to come through as FB but time will tell.
That brings.back memories of the England u17 World Cup winners when Gibson was shunted out of the team by Guehi and Panzo who were , at the time bigger and more physical than Gibson. ( And Billy Crellin was on the subs bench for that team!) . Physicality is key for a CB these days, we’ve had the likes of Feeney, Welch, Astley recently who just weren’t big enough and good enough, as you say time will tell.

…I’m sure I’m much older than you and remember Peter Clarke looking huge as an Academy CB but a bit slight when he broke into open age, he’s been playing up to recently and has had a fantastic career.

I thought Welch was physically terrific, he even looked big training with first team, it’s a shame he didn’t ’kick-on’ as he had a lot going for him in that department.

Welch was big in height, nothing more.

Haha , I don’t think so mate, I’m roughly 6 or 7 years older I’d say , it’s just that I write in a young way to fool people 😂

honestly wouldn't expect anything from young players while Dyche is the first team manager

….Branthwaite speaks very highly of him, he’s given Armstrong and Dixon game time. Garner has established himself as a regular and Iroegbunam has been given an opportunity. I actually think it’s a good time for an outstanding youngster to make a breakthrough but they have to be very special, especially for a forward.

Both had plenty of first team games elsewhere, Dyche will not bring anyone through from our youth set up
