Everton Youth Teams Thread

Saw this post in the Broja thread.

So your assessment of two players was based upon the comparison of one 3 weeks behind the other coming back from fitness..

...and one shot.

….nothing to do with fitness, Matey, it’s just what strikers do naturally. The run was decent, looked reasonably sharp regardless of where his training is but when a striker is in on goal they instinctively finish across the keeper. Similar to DCL who tends to hit and hope with his finishing.

Amazing how many times DCL hits it close to the keeper.

When he doesn't get time to think (West Ham away last season) you can see how he can finish and find bottom corners. But when he has time he has no awareness of where the space is around the keeper.

….absolutely. Even in the air you see a huge contrast between DCL and the likes of Cahill. DCL gets his head to crosses whereas Cahill heads the ball and picks his spot.

Not sure if it was Chermiti involved in the lead up to Broja’s attempt, if so he did well.

Every time I've seen him play, either for the u21s or first team, he doesn't look like a natural finisher. He does seem to have good movement and pace, so I think he'll get and create chances.

Yep, Cahill was absolutely brilliant at his leap, timing, but more importantly actually placing his header.

Barely any of his goals were ones that powered through the keeper, they tended to be placed but always had power.

….ha, ha it’s something I’ve posted about previously. I remember a game at Goodison (Gwladys St) when he went straight over the bar rather than doing what strikers do in going far post. It’s just an observation.

Looks to have filled out, good size about him and he looks like he can link play. Hopefully Thelwell has unearthed a player but I’m not yet convinced.

I think a little bit of leeway with him is needed until:

A: He's Dyche fit
B: He's new manager fit

:p
