Everton Youth Teams Thread

Someone on Twitter I think his user name is englandyouth or something. He sometimes tweets about their academy being good.

It's very good results wise, they have the best players around in most age groups, particularly the younger age groups however I am not sure that's yet been reflected by top players coming through although it's only going to be in the next few years whether we'll see if there approach works.

You'd think it would I guess with the facilities they have and the amount they have to throw at it.

It's got too really but they do teach different. Passing drills, structured & tactical training, players pigeon holed in positions and playing set formations on big pitches from an early age. Older Gk playing with younger players so even if it goes pear shaped they've got some insurance in matches. Clubs like United & Liverpool are now basing there training around the kids being allowed to express themselves, always try to win there individual battles and take people on in 1 on 1 situations as to develop there own personal skills.

United play a lot of just 4 aside games at younger ages on smaller pitches so the kids see loads of the ball and can just express themselves, scores don't matter at all. The structure comes in when they get older.

We're a bit in the middle ground of what City and United do.

surely if parents see city stockpiling all these young kids they most know the chance to break through is going to be diminished there.
Yeah, but your kid probably isn't going to break through either way. A free private education is absolute worth lowering the already insanely low odds.

You can't blame anyone involved, it's for the best for the kids. The only way to stop it would be for us to offer the same thing, which we can't afford.

Just to add to this, we do give quite good 'expenses' to our elite players at every age.

Up here in the North, I'd say only City who spend more but it's ridiculously more. We just can't compete, our top expenses paid would be there lowest.

@boris

What's your opinion on the Everton development centres?, is it just a numbers game where they are looking for the next superstar to send to FF.
Or do they try coach the kids and improve their game? (Under 7's ect)

They're just looking for kids to send to finch farm.

If you're son is asked in there he's clearly doing something right and that's the very first step on the road to getting signed. They're not interested in developing them although there training all helps your lad, for them it's to see close up what level he's at.

If he does well he'll get asked to train a finch farm & then maybe play a match and if he does well in them, they'll look to sign him.

It's unusual to stay longer than 8 weeks at a development centre. They either move you on or move you up. You only stay there longer if they see something in you but you might not be quite ready just yet.

Sorry I didn't realise it was under 7's. They can't be signed until they're half way through the under 8 season so they will stay longer and they will be trying to looks free the better kids but it's still all about finding there first crop of kids to sign to start the u9 season.

£1.5k a month for a 10 year old! you're kidding me, i've busted my ass all my life, had to go to college and then uni and be patient and do a lot of good things in my job to ear that much. I don't know how you can tell at that sort of age how good they're going to be to be honest, they're years away from anything resembling professional football - time does seem to fly so fast these days minds.

great insight from @boris.
