Everton Youth Teams Thread

Nice shots of the youngsters, obviously recent , so nice to see Connor Hunt and particularly Gethin Jones are "back" , Jines in particular has disappeared of late , maybe injury. That was quite a performance from Nathan Broadhead in keep uppies .

Glad to see the U18s back to winning ways. I was beginning to doubt the wisdom of rotating the four coaches, it must be a bit unsettling for youngsters as each coach will have his own style and therefore his own favourites. You could be thriving under one coach then a step backwards with the next. There's no doubt our best period was at the start of the season with settled coach and settled team.
Lavery had a few injuries early on in the season so nice to see him back to goal scoring form. Evans too ,it looks like they've dropped him back to u18s for a few games , seems to have paid off. They're all but there in terms of qualifying in the top four for the final 8 Team stage. It would really pay to try to keep the side as settled as possible to let them have a decent crack at winning it, though Chelsea look to be firm favourites to win the U18 league overall.

Ya i was wary myself of rotating coaches for the reasons you gave i.e. different styles and coaching methods but i wonder is it something similiar to barcas system where there is a blueprint to be followed from the bottom up by all coaches that is similar style of play to how the first team play?or are the coaches all individually doing their own thing when its their rotation?

How much of an impact of some players going out on loan affecting the team as well?

Well only Brewster on loan was a true U18 team member, Liam Walsh has played a few games I think but he was mainly u21 player before loan. Tom Davies may have played u18 more if Ledson/Walsh had not been n loan but again I think he's regarded as a u21 player now. It's always hard to tell, but player wise I wonder if Morgan Feeney moving up to the U21 squad upset the balance and stability that was there at the start of the season . He was back as a CH yesterday which maybe significant . He looks impressive for 16 , I'd be happy for him to remain with u18 for rest of this season

Thanks for the info. He was not a player hyped too much coming into the season but he has really seem to come on the past few months.

Newcastle United Under-18s 0

Everton Under-18s 8 (Evans 3, Lavery 3, Donohue, Feeney)

Ten-man Newcastle United suffered their heaviest defeat of the 2015/16 Barclays Under-18s Premier League season on Saturday as Everton cruised to an emphatic 8-0 win at Little Benton.A ruthless attacking
display from the Toffees saw Anthony Evans and Shayne Lavery bag hat-tricks, with Michael Donohue and Morgan Feeney rounding off the scoring following Owen Bailey's early dismissal for the Magpies.

Despite the result, United remain ninth in the table, while Everton are two points behind league leaders Manchester City.

The hosts were hit by an early double blow as Bailey was given his marching orders for a last-man challenge on Lavery after just seven minutes. The resulting free-kick was converted by Evans from the edge of the area to mark the start of an afternoon to forget for Dave Watson's side.

Everton's numerical advantage saw them dominate possession for the majority of the first half but they struggled to make it count as the Magpies attempted to settle things down.

An underhit back pass from Callum Lees almost gifted an equaliser for the hosts but trialist Dave Owusu failed to get the crucial touch to take the ball past Everton keeper Ciaran O'Loughlin.

But the Toffees eventually doubled their lead just before the break as Evans slipped through Lavery, who dinked the ball over United stopper Ben Smith to grab his first of the afternoon.

It was Newcastle who started the brighter of the two sides after the interval as Shane Donaghey's corner was headed narrowly wide by Ben Pollock from the edge of the six-yard box.

Soon after, Everton created a good headed chance themselves as Callum Lees' effort was tipped onto the crossbar by Smith.

With an hour played United had failed to register a shot on target and may have felt content being just two goals down - then the floodgates opened.

Two goals in as many minutes from Donohue and Lavery doubled the visitors' advantage once again and put the game way beyond Newcastle's reach.

But the Toffees were not done there as Feeney headed home from a corner with just under a quarter-of-an-hour to play.

Lavery completed his hat-trick shortly after with a neat finish into the bottom right corner from a tight angle to make it 6-0.

Then it was Evans' turn to complete a treble of his own with time running out, slotting home two carbon copy goals into the bottom left corner.

Newcastle will look to bounce back from this result when they entertain table-toppers Manchester City on Saturday (kick-off 11am).

Cheers @summerisle thank goodness you, others and NUFC are doing the job of our own OS in providing U18 info. I'm still waiting to see Delial Brester's hat trick against Man U , maybe with two hat tricks Everton Tv will pull its finger out.

A few interesting snippets picked up from the lineout. Our formation on paper suggests that Evans was playing behind Lavery in a 10 position. Always difficult to tell unless you see the game but it is something we've played before at this level with Lavery and Broadhead playing behind Brewster in a 10'role.And of course Evans has been touted as Roberto's " we've got a young 10 in development" . Also Callum Lees moving in from RB to play alongside Feeny in centre of defence, he's a big lad so a good choice if we were struggling because of injuries. I've seen the name of Alex Denny before but not sure where as I don't think he's featured at this level, wasn't one of the 2015 Scholars so presumably a schoolboy and maybe a scholar thus year?
